Day 2 for Nick Miller :D

I want to go to college because I want to help protect the ocean by pursuing my dream in being a marine biologist. Being indigenous and a marine biologist at the same time is something we really need right now and for the future. I want to bring the combination of tradition and science together to protect what needs protection. I also want to have the experience of swimming and studying amazing creatures of the ocean. Gathering research on creatures of the deep and not-so deep is a life long dream I want to accomplish. I could also pass down what I learned to the youth and generations after me.

Today was a very busy day. We woke up, exercised, ate a deliciously made breakfast by our residential elder, Joe The Amazing, went to a very exciting acting class, went to our English class reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, had break in between and fell of the slack line and got pretty messed up, learned about genetics, and we discussed self care. The highlight of the day was when Scott invited us to his house so we could go swimming. Today was a very busy, tiring, painful (in a couple of the students cases, me included), and plenty of fun. Grateful for another day living. Thank you ❤

First Day of Pitzer for Nick Miller :D

Hiya everybody! My name is Nick Miller and I’m part of the Chumash tribe. I’m 15 years old and am a sophomore at the Atascadero High School. I like to play football, run track, play video games, and hangout. I was here at the Pitzer Pipeline Program last year and I came back here looking forward to the new activities and the new experiences not a lot of people get to experience. I arrived here right on time and got the opportunity to have a room by myself (YES!!!!). I got to meet my new mentor and got to see familiar faces once again. We made rattles from elk hide today and made a necklace made of soapstone. ‘Twas the most bodacious day and I hope to get to have more amazing experiences!!!

Day 3(2nd full day)

Today is another great day given to us by the creator. We started off this morning with sunrise ceremony. It was a beautiful way to start off the day. After breakfast we did our so far daily Aztec math session which is always fun. We focused more on systems and decimals today. After that we did writing. We did more describing, which will always help a writer in some way. After that we went to Western university again today. They showed us poisoned  organs (organs with cancer), so we don’t do them in the future. After that we had I think the longest ceremony I’ve ever had. That’s a good thing though, there was a lot of people there, so they were getting a little bit of our medicine. We talked about the Eddie Aikou movie we saw yesterday. It was very interesting to see what people thought about the movie. Today was just a blessing to us; seeing stuff other people our age don’t get to see. Thank you everybody for an amazing day today and hope to have another good day tomorrow.

Today was another blessing from the creator. I had a lot of fun today. We started off the day with Aztec math. It was very confusing yet eye opening. After that we had writing, or an intro to writing I should say.  I always had a connection with writing. After that we went to Western university and it was very eye opening. Dr Tran talked about stuff that isn’t usually talked about. I never realized what our atmosphere carried. After that one of our elders taught us a new dance. I’m not a fan of dancing usually, but I’ll give this a try. It was very complicated for me to get, but I think I’ll get it down the line. All in all, today was a good day and I hope tomorrow is just as good of a day as today was.

Hello, I’m Nick. I’m the youngest one here. So make a good example! Just kidding. This is also my first year doing this, so I’m excited for our agenda. If anyone hasn’t been to Wishtoyo, you’re going to have a blast. Trust me.
