Just a little edit I did after blogging. đ
My native relatives surround me and i miss them. They had welcomed us and i would like to thank them for their effort, etc. they well be cherished in my heart forever. the songs we sang and learned, the food they put in front of us, their home and housing they offered, the fire they set for us, the stories they brought and shared with. Seeing my native relatives; grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles, aunties, brothers and sisters…. you are my sacred fire.
Aho
(Okay, first of all, this is ALL about Chumash, so its REALLY LONG cuz Iâm too lazy to write this all separately. Just keep scrolling down, maybe skim a bit, itâs okay, the posts youâre looking for are probably after mine.)
We just came back from Chumash yesterday!
âŠ
Actually ignore that exclamation point, Iâm really sad about that.
I made lots of friends there; Lea, Tima, Sarah, Cat (or is that with a K?), Uncle Johnny, Uncle Mati, Grandma Georgina, and many others who I love, but Iâm scared of misspelling their name.
We ate together, complained together about being tired, laughed at each otherâs fails, hugged, and everything together.
And you know what? We were even all up together at 5:30 AM every morning for Sunrise ceremony.
Man, if waking up at 5:30 every morning to try to raise the sun, when you donât have to, doesnât say something to you, then I donât want to say anything to you.
And the one thing I miss more than the people is the food. I am DEAD SERIOUS; I miss the bacon more than the people. If we can go back, just to eat their for meals, Iâll be happy.
(except maybe the cooks, auntie nina and lulu, right? i’d be just as happy)
Itâs just, ugh, you can tell when love is made into your food. Pitzerâs food is good, especially compared to other college food, but the food at Chumash was made with such love, Iâd go in starving, and leave, full, only by eating a quarter of the plate.
And of course, as soon as I said that out loud, everyone yelled about why didnât I give my food to them rather than to the trashcan as we rode on home. THAT is how good it is, my goodness.
I got to be helpful the last day too. I love being helpful, as long as Iâm not in the middle of something, but always feel free to order me around, because I love nothing more than âthank youâs. I helped Uncle Johnny make handwritten copies of our song we made; helped make like 40 or more prayer ties; and then I got to go and run around and get people food or hand them napkins and forks. I love being helpful. Love iiitttttttt.
I know a lot of people loved surfing, you can read about that anywhere else. Let me just say; rode a board for five minutes with an instructor, fell off, went straight back to boogie boarding. Boogie boarding was the bomb. I loved it.
I felt like I just climbed up Mount Everest every time I got to ride a wave without being dunked. I just couldnât stop squealing every time I did it, because I stink at swimming, so I was really glad I was able to go out so far and feel so safe.
âCourse, Jenna, Shea, and Caprilla (I MISS YOU GIRL. BABY, COME BACK.) were there to watch my back and to laugh at each other when weâd get dunk and eat sand.
I donât know if sand is high in protein or fiber or something, or about how beautiful my sunburns everywhere there wasnât a wetsuit make me, but the beach definitely wasnât my favorite. (But at least it made my feet not so pale. I was getting tired of people pointing at my bare horribly white feet, and saying âI LOVE your socks, Kayleen.â)
And the drumming sessions, I loved that; that is and always will be my favorite part. Learning and making songs, which I cannot remember, I helped to copy down like 15+ copies of it, handwritten, and it still did not stick… Singing the song about John Wayneâs teeth are they false? are they real? are they plastic? are they steel?. Listening to Lucas and Michael be funny as they just bounced off each other, you both are just hilarious, donât let anyone tell you different. Doing sync-ups with them, even if Michaelâs goal would be to make me mess up and get embarrassed, just because it makes him laugh. Watching Christa and Jenna dance to them, or sing along, even if all they wanted was powwow songs and I didnât know any. Especially in the dark when the fire was nice and warm⊠Man, that was the best.
I have a horrid singing voice; Iâm just glad itâs too soft for anyone to hear it and make comments about it like my âsocksâ.
UhhhhâŠ
âŠand I think thatâs it.
Oh! No! PEOPLE WHO ARE BORED ENOUGH TO READ THIS: WAAAIIITTTT.
I met my true love over there.
Heâs so good to me, I swear to gawd, I love him SO MUCH.
I miss him the most.
Hereâs his picture:

Doesnât he have the prettiest rolls youâve ever seen~?

Hanging out with david is always a fun time c:
i love the way he sings !
Love you david â„ c’:
i am so happy that the italians have returned for david addison and aaron. cant wait to hang out with them all again and i loved the chumash village and cant wait till next year. at the chumash village i really loved the beach and loved all of the people. i love the food they made how it was just mouth watering and the taste and all of their personalities. everyone was so welcoming and i loved it. we all slept in an app. we all slept on the floor.
What a day I am so tired to day I am happy that I got to take a nap it help a lot ha. Man I did not know how much work it takes to go camping. But it was a lot of fun I would do it again. We went camping for 3 days and we went camping at one of the Chumash Villages. The village is in Malibu and itâs really beautiful there. We got to do a lot of thing like we learn about native plants and how it can help you I thought that was really cool. Another thing we did was waking up at 5am every day when we where there at the village to see the sun come up!!!
Today I had fun even though we lost Capryl:[ (she didnât die or anything she just went home) I miss her. Its not really the same without her here. Â Even though sheâs eating El Tap without me:( not fair. We get stuck with kinda the same food everyday and sheâs over there eating the best Mexican food ever!! I did have fun at the chumash village with Mati and Chistina and sara and jenna and kayleen. Even though waves were brutal it was fun trying to surf (even though me and Capryl almost died trying to get out there.) and boggie boarding was way more easier than surfing thatâs all I have to say about that. And the seashell basket weaving was hard my hand kept on getting a cramp and it also didnât help that it was super cold and all I had brought was ONE pair of pants which was not fun even though it was hot during the day it was super cold at night and Thanks to Jackie we finally had a fire that wasnât burnt out in the morning even though Jenna did a good job the first night. And I really wish that they had showers but it was okay even though it was really cold in the morning.

Everyone in this photo means the world to me! Their my new family now , going to Chummash made me realize how wonderful life is and how important family & culture are. I learn a lot from my new brothers & sisters , to always be loving and be kind , if you kind to one another you’ll get it back. i really loved how they welcomed into their village with love & happiness! I love surfing it was really fun c:
i ;earned so much new stuff about my culture & a different tribes traditions , it was so amazing!

all the girls and i would always have a conversion with whoever would be lighting our fire that night , it was fun. it was something to look forward during the day and most of all the sleep! Lol
but yeah i had an amazing time there , well not even though amazing doesn’t even explain it all but yeah i miss everyone there đŠ
Starting the day off at 5:30 to do sunrise was a struggle, but today was remarkable because we all got to raise the sun. Even though it took two hours by the time the sun finally came out I felt so energized and happy to experience it. Today at Western University was fun. We learned a lot of new information about nutrition and fitness. We also got to do some hands on cooking which was really awesome because we all went in there not knowing what we were going to cook and we eventually made very tasty food so now ending the night we be amazing because we all get to go to bed on time!
I definitely miss my Chumash family â€
This morning we had a sunrise ceremony with Robert John and Jimmy Blue Eyes. We had to wake up at 5 so I was very tired, but it felt good to pray to the sun and mother earth. Later, we went to Western University and learned about nutrition and fitness. I learned that it is really important to eat right and exercise everyday to stay fit and healthy. I had a really great day today with everyone!
