Gardening & Traveling-Luna

Yesterday we got to take all the dead grass from pitzer’s garden (which was very tiring) and plant a few trees. Then, we traveled to LA 😀 which was pretty fun because i got to be the dj in Alejandro’s van (: when we arrived to the park it was extremely hot, and there was hardly any shade, i enjoyed when we all got in a circle and started singing because it always puts a smile on our faces. When we headed home some of us didn’t have the best luck so it bummed us out but I’m hoping today will be a better day(;Image

Our last week at Pitzer ):

I think this past week that went by everyone here has gotten so close and we all know each other. I’m defiantly gonna miss everyone. We have learned a lot about culture, diabetes, personality, songs, outer space, dances, writing, college, and how our ancestors are a big impact to this day. We have built a little family here, the days fly by so quickly but we enjoy every moment with one anther. I can’t wait to share all these stories that I’ve learned with my friends and family and tell them about the whole experience. I when the last day comes Alejandro is going to say “we’re 15 minutes early” cause we’re not gonna want to leave. I’m glad i met the mentors here because they help guide us and teach us things so we are aware ahead of time.Image

Assets in Luna’s community

Based on my positive assets i would want to join a volunteer group that goes around a hospital and listens or talks to the patients that are there because they need all the support they can get if they’re really sick and since i like to be motivated i would try to help build confidence in themselves. It would be a benefit because sometimes doctors aren’t able to stick around and have long conversations because they have a busy schedule. I am also taking Spanish in school so i can speak the language if there are any patients that don’t speak English that well. Since i want to be in the medical field as a career i think it would let me get used to the environment and understand some of the medical sickness that can affect on a patient not just physically but mentally.

Luna’s Biography

Hello my name is Luna Galvan. I was born in Upland, California. My birthday is September 27th 1996. I’m the youngest out of my siblings, I have 3 older brothers and 1 sister. I’m a junior at Upland High School. I’m in track. I’m also in dance. I’m Navajo and Mexican. My dad is native and my mom is Mexican. I plan to graduate high school and go to a four year University. I plan on becoming a pediatrician. I’m glad to be here and experience all the new things about the medical field and college life.

Western University

What i liked about Western University was the nutrition and diabetes lecture. What my perspective of my ideal patient relationship would be to get to know my doctor better since they’re always the one asking me how I am i would want to know how they’re doing. Doctors should know about they’re family life and their patients background so they know exactly how a patient should be treated in case of a dangerous situation. Doctors should ask about the patients ancestors so they know what runs in the native patients blood line; because in some situations in skips a generation if the family has a certain disease or sickness. I have only had one bad experience with a hematologist because after i got my blood drawn from both arms they left me with a huge bruise on one of my arms.
