Golden Eagle Award

Last Friday, September 28th, was Sherman Indian High School’s Indian Day, a day to celebrate and promote the Native American history and culture of Riverside and Sherman Indian School, both past and present.

A part of Sherman’s Indian Day is the awarding of Golden Eagle awards, which are awarded to those who have created a bridge between Sherman and the wider community. Scott was honored to receive an Eagle Award due to his work helping promote reading achievement among Sherman Students!

GO SCOTT!!!! Aho!!!

Mural-ing at Pitzer

Who wants to draw/paint/create a mural at Pitzer?

The Community Engagement Center (CEC) has asked two Pitzer students to facilitate a mural project reflecting “community engagement.” So this means that all the groups that work with the CEC will have a chance to design their own section of the mural; this includes Pipeline!

We will be getting together on September 30th at Pitzer to create our section of the mural. (We won’t be actually painting or drawing on the walls yet; we are still waiting for the construction to be finished.) We still want input from you; designs, ideas, drawings, etc!!

To help your ideas, try to figure out what the answers to the questions below mean to you and draw that.

“What does community engagement mean to you? How do you want to represent your personal and collective notions of community engagement?”

Please let us know by the 28th whether you will be coming or not.

Thanks!  Elizabeth

Ancestor Walk

The Ancestor Walk is a pilgrimage of the Gabrielino/Tongva & Acjachemen People tocarry prayers to honor the spirits of their ancestors at their Sacred Sites around California, which are mostly in SoCal. There will be bear dancers, musicians, and other events going on.

We will be only going to all of the Sacred Sites on Saturday, October 6th, starting with Panhe in San Clemente! We will be leaving from Pitzer College early in the morning, so if you need to stay here overnight, we can arrange that. Food and snacks will be provided.

This is an unique event that we are honored to be able to attend and we hope that you will join us in carrying prayers to their ancestors. FMI: Please look at the poster for info and for pipeline group specific questions, please ask Scott Scoggins or Elizabeth Shulterbrandt!
