After a long day of academic studies the best thing to do is relax and have some fun. At UCLA, they offer intramural sports as long as actual competitive sports. This for me is the best way to take a break from studying.

Blogging Prompt for July 19
There comes a time in college when you just need to take a break and relax. Some ways that college students take time for themselves is by going to the gym, shopping, or enjoying a movie.
Look up a college of your choice and describe what recreational activities they offer to students.
Come up with your own ideas of how to relax after a long week of studying.
The Surfer’s Life
If I were to go to Humboldt State I would surf and just hangout on the beach with my free time. It calms me down and recollects all my feelings.
Shaving the Acorns
1) My favorite part of cooking with Kim Marcus was shaving the acorns of the tanic acid which is poisonous to humans.
2) My job was to cut prickly pear and that was a snack to everyone in the program. They were actually pretty good. It was beneficial because it had antioxidants.
All Natural Cookin’~ Joye
I’ve cooked before. I cooked for my brothers when my mom is working but never have I cooked with a true Native. Kim Marcus is an excellent cook and his knowledge of all these natural foods within the environment is impeccable. He taught us all that we don’t have to depend on grocery stores and his wife clarified that most myths about foods are lies. I’ve actually learned that I was wrong about fats being bad for your body. They actually maintain your health by giving you more energy than protein. I was actually awed by her presentation that explained each myth. I’d like to thank them for that. (If you guys are reading thing, thanks!) Seeing the variety of food that is surrounding the campus and even back at home was shocking because I didn’t know they were edible. If our culture was brought more into the modern time, than I would’ve known. This statement makes me ponder about history; what if we had won the war? I can’t write as much as last night because that was quite tiring and I hate seeing my group wait for me. There are little things I’d like to write on this blog tonight. That we could live just as well without grocery stores. Perhaps better since we wouldn’t be gorging on all those sweets. Marcus show us what their sweets were like back then…. It was a bit too healthy.
Being side by side working on the pine nuts with my classmates made me feel even closer to them. It made me realize that there was no way people could have done it individually because with all our pine nuts piled up, we barely filled the surface are on the bottom of the bowl. There was no way that could’ve fed an entire village! I couldn’t believe how our ancestors did things so intricate that it became a way of living. It made me think that the past may have been better than the modern day. Our people didn’t just lived with life; they made living a passion. They kept learning new things everyday in order to survive and in a way, that just made life even more interesting. They never knew the future. They didn’t have our short-cuts. They depended on each other, and that’s what we all should do in the present instead of going our separate ways.
#peachesforlife
My most favorite part with Kim Marcus was getting to contribute and help out with the class. His wife’s class was great and I learned so much about what I need to eat and how much I’m supposed to eat.
My job during native cooking was sifting the crushed acorn and making it into fine powder. I liked this job very much and didn’t want to trade stations.
We went to the mall and it was so fun. I felt like I was in my element even though I hate spending money, no matter how much I have. So I only bought a pizza!!!! (unhealthy I know) sunglasses, and a really beautiful phone case. And some really fantastic cookies!
P.S. Happy Birthday ALYSSSAAAAA!!!!! ❤ 😀
Seventh Day for Maya
I can not get over what an amazing day I had with Kim Marcus. It was legitimately my best day at pipeline yet and I was so excited and fascinated with the native cooking that I wrote down every step we did. Even the approximate amounts we added of ingredients. I cut the prickly pears, cracked the acorns, made half of the mesquite pudding, and made and poured the sycamore bark tea. I worked along side Mr. Marcus’s wife Barbara for a while, and she was super kind. Almost everyone found the tea and pudding gross and too bitter to eat, but I loved it. I couldn’t get enough to the tea, and next to the black coffee I had for breakfast it was nothing. I’m bringing the recipes home to you mom!
I look so shiny
Then. We went to the MAAALLLLL. Mika dressed me up like the mannequin at Winsdor and I loved it. I bought the black, torn high waisted shorts but I didn’t get the tight plaid crop top. I ain’t about to get killed by my momma. Then we went to Zumie’s and I got a cute maroon and black tee. Watch me look bomb tomorrow.
After blogging, we’re gonna go watch a movie. And eat cupcakes! Happy Birthday Alyssa! Sweet 16 my girl.
Today :]
My favorite part about cooking today with Kim Marcus would have to be when we were doing the processes because he told us what to do and what the uses were for the plant. My job in making wiiwish was grounding up the acorns. It is good protein and fat for the body even tho it may taste like dirt.
