**Ohana**

I cannot believe that one week has pasted.

So far we (as Ohana Pitzer) Explored the space frontier at NASA and experienced the Mars Rover Landing (Btw it was my sis’s B-day yesterday so thats cool) so thank you guys for singing to her, after singing hours of karaoke.

So during reflections I was asked why I was here…Honestly you guys pulled me up with you, and I’m thankful for it.

THE LAST WEEK OF OUR JOURNEY TOGETHER !!!!!!!!!

when i first heard that we were going to a farmers market. I thought  to my self, cool i get see alot of vegetables and old products. Then it turn out to be unique to see all of  us  together having fun. The last couple of days were awesome;  we did alot of interaction  with each other and got to know more about one another. These days that i have been here at the pipeline program taught me how to be more discipline and the mentors, students , are so amazing to interact with and share each others culture. The last week here is going to be strong  and were all going to unite with each other in awesome way .I have came along way for reason and i just wanna sayto the mentors, students , staff , any one to  keep moving forward and keep your head up .

The native pipeline program – Angelina

So far.. I learned a lot of things, I learned a lot of songs, and how to make my dope shawl and clapper. (: Even dancing Salsa and Hawaiian. I made a lot of nice people and I am glad I met them and become great friends with them. I would love to come back next year again ❤

I AM HAVING REALLY FUUUN HERE ! [:

I never expecte…

I never expected that this week would go by that fast, I’m kinda sad about it though. I wish this program would last longer because they’re many things I wanted to learn like who am I?, where did I come from?, what did we do?, what was our traditional customs? and so much more. I might not even get a chance to know about my navajo and apache ancestors. 😦

I wish my tutu would see me what I accomplished so Far but I feel like I’m missing something special, something that I have to gain. Maybe I need to start growing up and learn my Hawaiian culture.

Why am I here. Sierra Jauregui

On Saturday we went to Chaffey Cultural center and we helped fix up the garden. Later on that night Redcloud came. They put a concert on for us and it was really fun! Yesterday we walked to the farmers market in the Claremont Village and when we came back Ms.Josie came and sang with us. She had a beautiful voice and it was really great that all of us were standing in a big circle singing along with her. I have never been around these cultural songs and it was really powerful to me that all us were standing there together singing. After we had a Hula lesson from Jessica and Jana’s dad. It was soooo amazing learning a Hula routine from because especially because they hold the Hula so close to their heart and it was nice learing something about their Culture.  Last night we watched “Alcatraz is not an Island”. It was interesting to me because I had no idea that Natives claimed part of the island. After we watched the Mars Rover Landing. It was cool because we were just at NASA learning about how long it took them to make this rover and their idea. Then we all sat in a circle for relfections. They asked ” Why are you here”. My response is ,I am here because I want to learn more about my culture and gain more knowledge and experience.

why im here

I am here to get a better understanding about my culture, to see what it is like to live in dorms and meet new people. Since Ive been here, Ive seen a different perspective on life and learned that I can become anything I want if I have the motivation. Ive grown to love everyone in this program, and I know that if I be myself around them, I wont be judged.

Less than a week left

I’m sad that I came late because the time I spend here is going by even faster. It’s been fun so far, with all the dancing and singing. I really liked going to Western again and learning about how the body works and how it balances itself out in order to function. The way the body works is incredible.

I also finally got to go swimming and that combined with working in the garden gave me an awesome sunburn on my nose.

P.S. I’m never falling asleep in the grass again.

Our last week at Pitzer ):

I think this past week that went by everyone here has gotten so close and we all know each other. I’m defiantly gonna miss everyone. We have learned a lot about culture, diabetes, personality, songs, outer space, dances, writing, college, and how our ancestors are a big impact to this day. We have built a little family here, the days fly by so quickly but we enjoy every moment with one anther. I can’t wait to share all these stories that I’ve learned with my friends and family and tell them about the whole experience. I when the last day comes Alejandro is going to say “we’re 15 minutes early” cause we’re not gonna want to leave. I’m glad i met the mentors here because they help guide us and teach us things so we are aware ahead of time.Image

Gardening and Farmer’s Market-Alysha

We have done a lot since the last time we blogged:

On Friday, we had a salsa dancing class. It was fun to learn about that type of dance because we had a funny teacher who got everybody involved. Everybody felt comfortable to be around her and be ourselves.

On Saturday, we went to Chaffey to help improve on the garden. It was a lot of work to do in a few hours, but we helped out a lot. I had the experience to yank out the root of a tree, thanks to the experience I had back at home. For lunch, we ate fresh food from the garden, such as salsa, vegetables, even brownies. It was yummy to have fresh and natural food from a garden that we all contributed to. Later that night, Red Cloud and Crystle Lightning came to Pitzer to help us in a workshop. It was very cool how we all came up with really difficult words, yet, Red Cloud was able to put them all in a rap. After dinner, we attended a Lightning Cloud concert with the Japanese students, had a dance party, and got their autographs at the end of it.

Yesterday, we went to the Farmer’s Market to look around and shop: I bought some fruits, a Blues Brothers poster, and a Mango Smoothie…which was yummy! We also had a culture class in which we jammed out on the drums and sang different songs that represent our culture. After that, we had a class on Native Hawaiin Hula Dancing. We all learned to dance hula and got to see Jessica sing a song. That was nice for me, because I had never seen a Hula dance before. After dinner, we watched a documentary called “Alcatraz is not an Island”; it was about how Native Americans from all over the country came together to protect their land and their way of living. This was after the government took back the land of the Natives. It was an interesting documentary to watch.

The day was a good one, and I can’t wait for what lies in the future days.
