Asset!!

1) The subject today is write 10 asset’s about me and my family, and community?
The five asset for my family and I are; happy, adventurous, entrepreneur, stable, and loving
The five asset for my community are; strong, peaceful, prepared, caring, scared.
2) Write about how you can mobilize those assets to address the deficits/problems in yourself, family, and community
My family mobilized the community by opening a homecare service; were they go and take care of the elderly and disabled. And my mom helped the governor of New Mexico build three new suicide prevention centers.

One of the classes we had was with professor Tessa and one of the things she taught us about our communities is that we all have assets, “A way for you guys to remember what we talked about today,” Professor Tessa said ” Is that you just need to remember one thing: my name Tessa…” We were slightly confused but when she wrote her name on the board and asked us what was her name spelled backwards we all laughed and understood because TESSA spelled backwards is ASSET………..TESSA=ASSET XD Isn’t that cool?!?!

Besides that we had Photography class and we were given an assignment to make our own digital book. We also had Robert John Knapp come in a share all his sacred items that he has been given over the years. It was a really fun experience in all and very heavy in knowledge.

Helping Hand.!

Chief of my tribe, the Crow. I am very proud of who I am and where i came from:)

Every community is in need of at least a little improvement.  This includes my community as well.  I will be attending the University of Redlands this fall and throught the next four years i will be working on my degreee in business.  With the loving support of my community, family, and friends i know i will be able to finish and make a difference in the community.  I will be able to make new organizations for those in need and help the businesses that are struggling.  I will also be able to open up my own business and help the community throught that.  The plan i have in mind is to give back to my community that has been there for me my whole life.

Help The Community

The way I would help make my community better is to get more activities and programs so that the teenagers have something to do other than drink and smoke.  I would help make fundraisers to make money to be able to provide the activity funds.

U dont have to be blood to be part of my family :D <3

Do you have a valuable, which is so precious to you; perhaps you would offer all to give to have it in your life? As for me, yes, I do have that precious thing in my life that I would describe as to means the world to me. That precious item is my family, which I know will forever be with me at any point of time.  To me family is not only the same bloodline or same relatives, but it is a place to belong and to be loved. My family is who has ever been there long enough to call my family or relatives. My family is who has been there for me to go and talk to whom would have to be someone I can trust. In my life, my family is always going the most valuable item in life that will forever be with me, no matter what, even after the day I past, they will still be in my relations.

My family is so valuable to me mainly because of all of their support they provide and all the motivation they give me.  They have always wanted for me to achieve a higher education to succeed in a great career.  They also give me confidence on how to live a positive life style and they build my self-esteem with many wonderful thoughts.  So whenever I need some advice or another’s perspective I would always and definitely look towards my families’ point of view, because I’m positive they know what is the best for me in any situation.  Through my life, my family will always be there for me to go to, so I am very glad and thankful to have them in my life.

If I not at all had my family, I would in no way know where I would be today. My family will always stand by my side and will always be with me in my heart. For those who were the ones that were there lecturing me and telling me what is the best thing to do in life, I do not know where I would be if it was not for them. They were always there to tell me of what is right and what is wrong to do and of the many consequences to face. My family has given me the best thing in life which is life, motivation and love which have shaped me to be who I am and where I stand today.  So I am very thankful for those people I call family in my life, because if it wasn’t for them I would have not made it this far in life alone.

Western University Day 1

Yesterday, we went to Western University to learn about diabetes and what we can do to prevent it. We also learned about family practice in Medicine and advice we can give the doctors.

The ideal physician patient relationship would be: having a relationship that is personal, but not uncomfortable. For example, my doctor asks me questions about how I am doing and has a friendly conversation with me from time to time, rather than just a basic check-up or physical. It is nice to have a little talk with my physician, just to feel more comfortable being around them.

Cultural information that doctors should know about their patients is family history in their genes or tribe. This is important to know just in case the patient is diagnosed with something that isn’t related to their personal medical history, they can connect the information with that of the family and ethnic history.

Questions that doctors should ask about Native Culture and Health are: (1) What are the common problems or diseases that have occurred to your family and background that we should be aware about? (2) What lifestyle do you have on the Rez compared to the city [diet, surroundings, activites, etc] that may be the cause of poor health?

I have had a good experience with medical treatment when I had surgery back in 2010. My nurse would always check up on me every now and then, and she was always available to help me on my way to the restroom (because I couldn’t walk well due to the surgery). All the nurses and doctors would be willing to help me whenever I needed help, which made me feel safe and important. That was a wonderful experience that I had with medical treatment.

Pitzer Pipeline “DAY 2”

yesterday we were asked about what our ideal physician patient relationship, what cultural information should doctors know about thier patients? what questions should doctors ask about Native culture and health? and Have you, or people you know had good or bad experiences with medical treatment.

well I barely visit my doctors so I don’t have any relationships whatsoever, what doctors should know about their patients is how they they see things culturally (I don’t know much of this stuff), doctors should ask how they use plant life as a medicine so they can help them, and I never had a bad experience with any doctor but it’s funny when I see my sister scared of a little needle. XD XD XD XD XD XD

Western University

My ideal physician is someone who is supportive, patient, has good energy and will try everything in their power to help you. The curltural information that doctors should know about patients is where theyre from, their beliefs in medicine, and their ethnic backgrounds. Everyone that I know has had good experiences with medical treatment.
