we get it done(:

These past days have been great. It started on saturday when we clean the garden with  barbra drake. I got a cut on my arm but it was still fun. We came back to pitzer to watch red cloud and CRYSTLE LIGHTNING(: .Sunday we walked to the farmers market and i had the bombest smoothie ever! we also learned some cultural songs with josie and did some hawaiian dancing with keoni & jen. We watched the alcatrez movie and i learned that it was more than just an island. Monday we went to the State Historic Park and i learned about all the sages that our out there. That the land was very sacred and all the indigenous plants. We had a bomb fire and bonded great with Olivia & Cindi. The pipeline has been great and i learned so much that i’ve been here. I’ve met so many people and i don’t want to go home. I learned to live without t.v. & games and i adapted to just talking and meeting new people. I also liked the salsa dancing and yoga class with Daria.

Misune- Ashley

I was lucky enough to get this opportunity to participate in the Native Summer Pipeline to college. It was a funny story to how I got here, it was like it was meant to be. I had went to a  Pow Wow with my Aunt and my Grandma, we were indecisive if we wanted to go and then changed our minds at the last minute to wanting to go. We had walked around at least twice and then suddenly we saw this husky dog, I went up to go pet it because I love animals. Then suddenly this man, Scott, began to ask me if I liked the medical field and if I was in high school, at first I was kind of confused; then he began to tell me about the program and how it was about the medical field and the Native American culture. I began to feel excited and wanted to fill out the application. Even though the applications were already turned in, Scott still gave me the chance to turn it in. Now that I am here I feel so blessed and it has been a wonderful experience so far. There are so many things I didn’t know about my culture, that I now know. Not only do I learn about my culture but also others around us. This program has been something I will never forget. Now that there are six days left, I don’t want to leave and sad to see it coming to an end. I can’t wait to go home and share my experiences and the knowledge that I now have with my family and hopefully pass it on to the younger generations.

Because of Misune I was able to have this wonderful experience.

Mohawks are annoying to maintain. – Michael

So for the Lightning Cloud concert we all decided that I would spike up my mohawk. The day of the performance my great room mates helped me shave the sides and it was really great. Alex and Alejandro were fantastic to help hook me up with some of their skills, and razors and creams and what-not.

Well when we finally got to spiking it there were 6 people that had to help out! I don’t even know how many we put in my hair but it did work for awhile. Sadly I washed everything out before the concert started because it just didn’t work out :/

“ (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ <( COMICBOOKS ♥ ) ”

Oh snap, crackle, pop, I FOUND COMICBOOKS.
Yesterday, we went all organic and chizz and went to the Farmer’s Market. Afterwards, we got bored. Like every other single human being on this planet.

personally, i’m bored of being bored, if that makes sense xD

So we went to the Packing House. It was a building where we used pack up citrus and lemons and stuff, but it got remodeled so there’s stores everywhere. We went there- OMGEEEEEEE THERE WAS A COMIC BOOK CONVENTION-THING THERE.

I fangirled so hard when I bought a $3 pin of Batman, I would’ve won the million on “America’s Funniest Home Videos”. So, pretty hard. xD

I was raised by Batman and Spiderman as a kid, so, if that tiny convention wasn’t heaven, I don’t wanna’ go 83

However. I did almost die- I mean get seriously maimed and/or injured.
They were shaving Mikey’s head and U was hanging out with my waffle ball on the balcony right underneath them, and they dropped a shaving cream bottle that almost hit my head.

THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU GUYS. I LOVE YOU TOO.

From then til now.

Well for the past few days we all learned about Diabetes, the native plants to california, Drums, and met crystal lighting!

So in Diabetes we learn about Type I&II, which is something we thing is not that dangerous but after that, I know now that it is something that could kill alot of people!

The native plants to California was the most awesome!! We worked hard, and became closer to the earth. So after we worked we ate and for some reason the food tasted alot bettter!

The drum making was awesome too!! It was my first drum that i have ever made! So making it was one of a kind….

And meeting Crystal Lighting was cool. Well I didnt know I knew her for awhile like the movie she showed in or the games she lended her voice for PREY! Well PREY is the first video game to have a native american as a the main character, and she voiced the main character girlfriend. Sadly in the end of the game she died!! awwww…..

Update – Michael

We went to SPAAAAAAAAAACE.

NASA was cool. And we have a lot of photos. It was amazing meeting Red Cloud and Crystal Lightning and seeing them perform.

This program is ending too soon. I need to get a photo up here of my head cause we shaved the side of my hair suuuuper short.

Alcatraz is not an island was a good documentary learned many things and the mars landing alright! feeling down but still good enough (Good enough!).

THINGS..

Love these girls:)

We haven’t blogged in a while so i haven’t got to check my facebook in a while…just bein truthful. These past 3 days have been pretty fun.  We went to the garden and it felt really good to see the big difference that we made when we were all working together.

We also went to the farmers market and it was REALLY hot…well to me it was.  We also got to meet Redcloud and the concert was really fun . In the past week i have gotten really close to the girls and i don’t want to leave them in a week:(

Last night we watched a movie about alcatraz and even though i already watched it a few times i wanted to see how the others reacted to it.  The movie opens your eyes to what happened between the government and us Natives.  I like to see people learn about their culture 🙂  Karaoke was also very fun(:

New Experiences

The other day we went to a sacred garden and helped cleaned it up it was really hot afterwards but it felt good to help out a sacred garden.

Yesterday a teacher from my high school came to Pitzer to sing us songs and a little but about the drums it was nice seeing her and I had a good time when she was here.

Yesterday some people came to Pitzer College to teach us a warrior hula dance it was very neat and I like the way they dance even though it hard to learn.

The reason why I’m here at Pitzer College because I’m trying new experiences away from home and I want to learn more about other people cultures so I know there ways and I want to know more about college and the medical field.

Im really thankful  for the people coming to help us learn about other cultures (:
