Day 2

College is important because:

  • To get a better job
  • Move out
  • Be a role model for my younger family members
  • I’ll get another experience besides high school
  • I might meet new people from different cultures or backgrounds
  • I want to become a nurse or psychologist

Today I didn’t mind writing, I usually don’t like it.

Day Dos Bruhs

1. I want to go to college in order to feel accomplished and be proud of myself.

2. I want to go to college because someday I want to have a family and I would like to be able to support them financially and sustainably.

3. College is important to me because I want to push my academic abilities beyond their abilities.

4. College is important to me because I am a minority descent and I want to prove that it does not make a difference in academic success.

5. College is important to me because neither of my parents completed it, so I want to do it for them.

Today was a fun but exhausting day. I learned some theatre warm ups that were fun. Besides that, the rest was all stuff that I had learned already in school. I learned more about genetics which was the most interesting for me. The rest of the day at scott’s house was a lot of fun.

Day of Learning

1. I want to go to college to have a proper education in order to be successful in life.

2. To fulfill my parents dreams of being the first to go to college . It would make them really proud.

3. It is important to make a difference in college and my community.

4. College is a way for me to take a step forward in the right direction and become an example for the people who most need it.

5. Going to college will prove that I am capable to achieve great things in life and be able to do what I like to do.

Today, was a very hectic day. There was lots of classes to go to and a lot of listening. The major thing i learned today was about genes. I already had a good understanding of genes but the doctor who lectured us today really made me grasp the whole concept of genes and the importance it has in our lives.

#peachesforlife

Going to college is important for me because getting degrees now-a-days, is the only way someone can really get through life. As in getting a good paying job, paying bills, for food, clothing, transportation, etc. Unless you’re famous. Getting a good education is also really important, your education can take you long ways, travel, explore new things. College also helps you meet new people, make new friendships, or relationships haha (where my parents met). Going to college can make your dreams come true, be who you want to be, do what you want to do. If you want to make a difference in your life or someone else’s, college can definitely help, like becoming a lawyer, surgeon, doctor, firefighter, etc. You can save someones life as a result of going to college if you really think about it.

Today was great. I learned a lot about genetics, my soul, and thought more about my life story.

Education

The five reason college is important for me is because I wanna get a good job in computer science, have a good life, be a good role model, be successful, and make a lot of money. My day today was good and especially when we went to Scott to swim even though I didn’t go in.

#LummiNation

I think that college is important but some people don’t think so, some kids around my reservation don’t make it out of high school. College is important because you can come back years later and give back to your community, and you get a good education when you go to college, you encourage your other family members to go to college, college is important for me because I’m gonna be the first to go in my grandpa’s side of the family. My day was a really great day me, Thelma, and Joye laughed so hard at The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian! We laughed so hard at one part and we won’t ever quit laughing sat it because it’s so funny, I think that part we laughed at is always going to be a little inside joke for us 3. I hope after this program I’ll be friends with the new people I met, I’m still friend with the others from last year that aren’t here this year. It’s going to be another great 2 weeks here and I hope to come back next year.! – MacKayla Sharon14996190897_37961ac5eb_o

All About Joye

Joye Charlotte Lehen is my name and a complicated one too.  I’m from a little town called Lee Vining in the Eastern Sierra Mountains.  Being at Pitzer College allows me to connect more to my Native American culture and it enables me to explore further outside my comfort zone while in my everyday life; I’m isolated within those mountains.  This pipeline is good for me and my future to help me see inside behind the college life while all at the same time, I can goof off and have fun making new friends. This new environment makes the journey even more adventurous and exciting and I can’t wait to see what the next day and week has in store for me.

As you probably have guessed, I’m quite the adventurous person and I don’t like things to be boring.  Although my thirst for an exciting journey is ravenous, I could be a quiet and shy person.  I at times laugh at the idea of my mixture of personalities.  it’d be hard to guess what I could be when I obtain various qualities and skills that would help me in the future.  This Pitzer Pipeline Program will help me find what kind of person I really am and what my story is really about.  This is just a cover of myself and the story has just begun.

hello my name is duke

Hello, my name is Duke Briones i’m from soboba reservation. One of the things i really love to do is to play football, the position i play is linebacker and fullback. The other thing i love to do is paintball since it’s all about working with your team mates and just having fun. The reason i applied for this pipeline is because i wanted to try something new. I also think this will be a good reflection later in life. The first day at the pipeline was new and just about getting to know everyone.

Ayee It’s Mika

Let’s start off with an introduction. My name is Mika Jade and I am 17 years old. I am from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota. I am Dakota/Lakota. I live on a reservation with about 2,000 proud Native Americans. I like to be involved socially, culturally, and athletically.

I wanted to be in the Pitzer Pipeline Program because i knew this program was gonna help me finish college, give me a better insight into the university life, and be prepared to go to college.

Today, was a pretty slow day. I met most of the students, it’s a pretty small group, and hopefully I get to know more about our tribes and work together by the end of the program.
