All ’bout Brandon

My full name is Brandon Michael Drea (Flores in Mexico as well). I am half Mexican consisting of spaniard and some indigenous roots, and half white consisting of Irish, Scottish, Danish, and German heritage. My mother is from Mexico City, and my dad is from a small town in Iowa called Oto. I was born in Los Angeles, CA, and have lived my entire life here without much family around.

My hobbies mainly consist around playing my musical instruments and practicing Judo. I have been playing guitar for around 6 years, drums for about a year, and the keyboard on and off. I have been practicing Judo for the past year. By far, music is my greatest interest, but in terms of my academic interests, I am greatly interested in human biology and the medical field in general.

This is my second year participating in the Pitzer Pipeline. I came back this year because everything about last year was so great, I’d hate to miss out on all of it again. Even tho we may not be doing some of the same things, It’s still bound to be a great experience.

Today has been my first day in the program and it was a great start to the following two weeks. I got to know the rest of my fellow peers and they are all great people who are a lot of fun. I may have been extremely tired today but that didn’t stop me from having a great day. I look forward to tomorrow.

My full name is Michelle Samantha Polasky, I am from the Lummi Indian Reservation in Washington state. I’m Lummi, Athabaskan and a quarter white. I’m very interested in Astronomy, I love star-gazing. The only sport I like is volleyball. I also love reading when I have the time. This is my second year coming to Pitzer, I first learned about this program from a nurse at our school. Since then, The Lummi Youth Academy has been very supportive about bringing more youth to the pipeline. I was interested in coming back to the program because of how much knowledge about other tribes, cultures and people I’ve learned. Today was our first day and I thought it was fun, I enjoyed the icebreakers and getting to know the new students this year. I’m very excited for the rest of the program.

first day

The first day was kinda boring because it was a lot of just getting to know each other and getting used of my new surrounding.i wanted to come back to the pipeline because last year i had lots of fun and also wanted to see my old friends from last year.

My name is Dani K. Jefferson, my indian name is Quiachtunaut. I am from Lummi Reservation in Washington. My native blood is Assiniboine from my moms side and Coast Salish from my dads side. I love to read and enjoy Pure Leaf Sweet Tea. I came to Pitzer last year and it was an amazing experience I learned a lot about other cultures and discovered what I want to be in life. This year I want to have another fantastic two weeks.

Today we made rattles, I completed mine and can’t wait to use it. Jean was a great teacher. Rose and Bingo gave us advice and told us their stories, its amazing how much people go through and can still stay strong and make a difference. The stories that i heard today make me want to grow up and succeed as a Native American, to make a difference.

Thelma

My name is Thelma Wall. I am from the Blackfeet Nation and Lummi Nation. I will be a senior in the fall, after high school I plan on becoming a marine. After going into the marines I want to go to college but I haven’t decided what for or where.

First day

Today was an exciting day filled with ice breakers and activities. We were introduced to each other, and it felt nice seeing familiar faces from last year’s program. It is slightly intimidating that there are only 5 male students, and the rest female. However, it is always nice seeing the power of females in action.
