FRIDAY!!!!

I think the common app is where it is possible to find the college that fits me.

2) I think that I would need to figure out what I want to study to see which college has the major I’m looking for.

3) Researching helps to see if I am able to pay off the college or if I am able to apply for certain scholarships.

4) A strong college essay is offering the first impression to the school, if they would like to have me at their school because of an event in my life stands out.

5) I think a tip for good essays is telling the truth and not leaving details out.

6) Engaging the reader is not my best suit of what I write about. I tell a story to show that I have a past that affects me and I learned from it. I don’t have any other tips.

I think that singing cultural songs are important to me because my family has just started to sing the eagle song. It means a lot to my dad that I learn the song because he knows that one day I will have to teach younger people about it. I also know that respecting the elders is important in Lummi that they eat first. Also that they need everyone listening to them once they start talking.

I think that being a part of a ceremony helps with the decision if I want to study a culture in college. If that was the point then I would return to my tribe and lend a helping hand with my knowledge.

In the future I would want to give back to my community by volunteering at the baby sitting place by Lummi Nation School or maybe become a helper for the fundraisers children have.

  Trisha Question:

How many phones have you had in your life time :]

Wishtoyo Was Great

1) I made a clapper? I don’t think that is what they’re called. I also made an abalone necklace. The dogbane rope I made I used it to make an anklet. The experience was great because I was doing very well at the start. I’m able to learn quickly. Bingo also told us how he used the clapper sticks in Canada, about how important events like a wedding day or big events.

2) The teaching I have learned is mostly from the elders how they told their creation story different from other tribes. I also learned how important ceremony is that we don’t always need a phone.

3) The entire trip I liked how I learned more about how long it took to create Wishtoyo Village. My favorite experience was being around other people learning how to make crafts everyone seemed to have a great time. \

I am looking forward to the rest of the week. I’m waiting on the return of our college essay class papers to be returned. I didn’t try my hardest on the assignment but it was an important story to me. I am also looking forward to graduation I bought a white dress(probably going to get dirty). The only thing I’m not looking forward to is saying goodbye but goodbyes are never ment to say goodbye forever more like see you in the future. I am excited to see what the future brings to me because I want to be in business and maybe one day own my own business here in California.

Trisha Has Questions So Comment….

1) It’s important to tell your story so you don’t get judged. To reach out to more people with a similar story.

1) I feel that the museum is holding a culture even though they mostly think of it as a study. Natives today still hand make the regalia it isn’t history yet because it is still possible to see the dancers with a passion of their culture.

2) I think native culture and college can go together because that is how we are suppose to bring the history back. How we use the language and skills like making baskets or handmade clothes. If it were to be studied and found where it belongs then it should be sent home like the children clothes. After it is studied then the next thing in that museum should be studied and sent home like a cycle. Even though I want to be in business marketing or management I wouldn’t want to see Native hand made work sold online when it should be past down with their story. It wouldn’t be the same if you just buy it online with no history or stories with it.

3) Today I felt very tired like one of my eyes were in pain. But I’m sure i’ll be okay today the acting was okay hopefully tomorrow will be better. I’m really getting into the reading and it is a funny book. Today’s lunch was huge and I loved it!!! i like listening to Joe and Rose because their stories hit the heart with so much love.

HIIIIIII :O

Why it is hard for native americans to attend college

1) Not graduating from high school for many excuses.

2) No support from teachers, peers, family and/or friends so the only option is to give up.

3) Getting into bad habits like drugs and alcohol.

4) No money support, not being able to get a job, or getting the starting money to pay for classes and text books.

5) They don’t accept their opportunities that they get like a scholarship because they don’t want to be smartest person in the room or the only one with the chance.

Today I felt very independent, listening to the speaker during class and not getting distracted by my peers around me. I also like the book we are reading because it is getting funny, serious and outgoing with words. The application class we have for college application make me want to speed through and see if I can get to the college I want with the mayor I plan to study. I learned more about myself that I need to become more outgoing and talk to more people and to stop hiding like a turtle all the time.
