Cadaver

Yesterday we went to western University to check out the anatomy lab,we were divided into three sections; Brain and Heart, Bones and Muscles, and observing a 90 year old lady with a chest cavity. It was fun but I’ve already done this at Cal Poly so I know most of the stuff, it’s good to learn something again. I’m pretty upset that we’ll be going home soon, I’m going to miss my Native brothers and sisters, I’m also hoping that they’ll come back next summer but with more people. I’m Gonna Miss Them :'(.

Cadaver Lab 5/9/12

Yesterday, we went to the cadaver lab at Western University and got to see hearts, brains and legs. At first, I was a little grossed out, but once I started getting used to being in there for a while, I started to become interested. I dont want to go in there again, but it was a good experience and opprotunity to see what it would be like.

Yesterday at Western University was wonderful because some of us got to learn about the cadavers, the human brain, and the heart. After the lab we all got our certification that we know a lot about diabetes which was exciting. Then, we took plenty of pictures and when we got back to Pitzer most of us went to the gym so it was fun because we were all each others motivation 😀 then we had a class with Geri Keams that was very interesting cause we all made up stories within 25 minutes and then ended up being great(: Also, props to Mika for taking all these great pictures of us the past two weeks and spending most of his days with us 😛ImageImageImage This is for Brittany >;D

Yesterday at We…

Yesterday at Western was so amazing. The human cadavers were so interesting even though it was just a human body. We actually got to see inside it and how it works. I think we are very grateful because not a lot of people get opportunities like this. that was once in a lifetime experience. I’ve learned so much at western such as diabetes, body parts, and even people at disney need to know how to body structure words. Then we had story time with jerry that was fun i always love a great story. i think i have gained so much knowledge from this program and i think its to early to go home. i wish i had people like this in my life all the time. I like to thank the creator for giving me another day to live everyday. And everyday is amazing.

Health Career Choices

Yesterday, the cadaver lab at Western confirmed my interests in the medical field. For a second I was questioning if nursing was where I belonged but now I know it’s not. I think I want to be a doctor. One of the med students pointed out my interest in the movement and muscles of the amputated leg  and suggested physical therapy. I liked that idea, I can add it to the many other things I hope to study. Maybe it isn’t the end of the world if I have to specialize in something. Maybe it is possible the I can do more than one thing. And maybe one day I won’t be so afraid of choosing one thing, maybe when I start studying medicine I’ll find my place.

Pechanga and Pool Party-Alysha

Yesterday (August 8) was my nephew’s 4th birthday, so my day was blessed from morning to evening: We woke up really early, went to ceremony at 7:00 A.M., and ate breakfast at 7:30 A.M. in order to get in the vans and head out to Pechanga. The drive took about an hour and a half, but because I rode the “party bus”, we had a nice time jamming out to music and enjoying our ride over there. Once again, it was a hot day, but we were honored to see the 2300 year-old Great Oak that stands on that reservation. I felt like I got to see two wonderful trees this summer, and although that may seem like an unusual object to be so happy about, but back where I live, the only trees we have are the normal “lollipop” trees. So, seeing the different formations of trees are so cool! We left Pechanga and headed out to Dr. Rega’s house at around 1:00 P.M. for a pool party. Normally I do not get in a pool (I have a fear of pools…and water guns, sprinklers, etc.), but yesterday, my mind was calm and somehow, I gained the strength to get into a pool and have fun with everyone. I scared Brittany a couple of times, which was so funny!! Later that night, we had a workshop with Deron Marquez to talk about Tribal Government, and Adelina Padilla joined us. That was a nice way to end the night, because I got to learn about Tribal Government and the schedule, which I didn’t know before.

An Elder and Bodies

Yesterday started off cool, we met and elder and she told us storys of her life as i have said in my recent blog. Shortly after that blog we left to go to Western which was the point in which we see bodies. I was in deep consideration of not going into it as, but before i went to i talked to my mum and told her about the situation. She said that i could but i couldn’t mourn the dead and if i did they would come back.

At first it was hard not to mourn, til I heard that they did it to help mankind better. So as first i felt light, dizzy…. so as the doctor pulled the cover off my eyes just opened up like an owl…

The best time was when i was given a shell, medicine bag, and a necklace… that was the thing that hit me the hardest… it was so so so so powerful…….
