8/9/12 – Michael

I loved going to Pechanga. It was great seeing the cove after the Pechanga youth program had ended. We did so much there, it was amazing to just look at the Kiisha’s and remember how much work had to be put in to make it. I almost couldn’t contain myself when Paul told the story of the Seven Sisters and I had already known it and, ironically told Kayleen a moment before at the cove.

Watching the films Alcatraz is Not An Island and Reel Injun were great, I will have to get those movies and watch them again once this program is over.

The elders we are meeting here are fantastic, it’s such an honor for them to share their time and stories with us.

A LOT has happened in the past few days, we had lots of fun. we went to the Pachanga Reservation and we had the honor of being able to see the Great Oak Tree and it was so inspiring to just be there, i definitely learned more the essence of miracles, Thank You Paul for showing us around and giving us that special honor 🙂 We were also visited by an elder named Adelina Padilla who was such an inspiration to me because of how she can share her story and still be so strong about life and never having expressing or even giving that thought of hopelessness. Love You Adelina!!

my final notes!

On Tuesday, we watched Reel Injun, I really thought that the ideas and ways of the people back then were just a disgrace. On how they used to treat and describe the stereotypes of us. The part of the movie that got me mad was when they had all the kids in a camp wearing paint on there face. they called themselves the “Sioux” tribe which i think is not only disrespectful to to the tribe but also to all native americans. I just thank all the ancestors for let me be in this “free” world today and allowing me to have more opportunities.

Yesterday, I we…

Yesterday, I went to Pechanga in Temecula and I learned a lot about my culture that I never knew before. I saw the Great Oak tree and learned a lot about it. This morning during ceremony, Adelina Cadilla came and spoke to us about her life story. She made me realize that everything bad that happens to us will only maker us stronger and help us learn how to become better people from it.

Pechana and a Pool Party. Sierra Jauregui

Yesterday we went to Pechanga. I was super excited because I am part of the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians. We had a tour guide named Paul Macarro. He showed us the Great Oak tree and it was beautiful. I had never seen it before so seeing it for the first time was amazing. After we went to Dr. Rega’s house for a pool party. It was really nice of her to open her house to us and cook us great food. I had fun swimming with my friends too. This morning we had a special ceremony. Adelina Cadilla came and spoke to us. She told us her story, it was kind of sad but yet very powerful. She spoke to us about the things she went through in her life. Yet she always had hope and never gave up. It inspired me to always appreciate the things in my life and my family. It also inspired me to have hope in everything no matter what.

Relaxing day

Yesterday we went to the Pechanga cultural center, it was nice and very cool inside. our tour guide was Paul, he gave us a tour around the great oak, it seems that she was 900 to 1200 years old, the trunk is 10 ft below the surface, and small baby trees were growing around her. After experiencing a wonderful miracle, we drove to a summer campsite where we went into an actual sweat lodge, it was small on the outside but it was big in the inside and we were sweating a bit. After we were done we traveled to a friends house and went swimming and had BBQ. “IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVER”, but when we were about to head back I hit my head hard against the door of one the vans, I had a huge headache throughout the whole ride home But it was fun. XD XD XD XD XD XD

We went to the ” ool ” yesterday

See how there’s no P in the pool? LET’S KEEP IT THAT WAY.

//shotforcorny-ness.

Anyway~ Yesterday we went Dr. Rega’s house! It was SO MUCH FUN, YOU SHOULD’VE BEEN THERE.

First of all there was the pictures- Dr. Rega has posters and thank-you notes from everybody in my favorite movies (Spirit of the Wind, Totoro, How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch, and more 😀 ). Then she had an entire plate of DC and Marvel Comic legos.
Me and Jana stayed there and named each of the characters of the plates, squealing the entire time. such comicbook fangirls, we are We also had “Batman in Arkham City”, the X-Box version, that I watched Jana play. since i has zero video-game skillz, i didn’t play xD

Then. There was Mikey. My mortal enemy.
He did not bring swim trunks to the pool, so, I suggested coughforcedcough that he borrow a pair from Mr. Rega. HE TOOK SO LONG THOUGH. And theeeeeen, I was told there was food. SO just when I went outta’ the pool, Mikey went in.

Mikey was not happy that I came out.

And that is how the bloodshed started. The persistant Michael’s Military Militia went against the awesome the Kayleen Gangsta’ Krew. Unfortently, more then half the pool enjoyed batteling against Michael’s Militia and was horribly outnumbered and I was horriably hungry, so we called a truce.

Sorta’.

Kinda’.

Whatever.

Swim! nope.avi nick lozano

yesterday was fun i got to go to my ancestral land of Temecula and visit my cultural center and the best part was the cove, kiisha are still the best house out there, they say it was hot maybe. we also went to Dr Rega’s house and had a pool party except i did not swim, why because i did not want too. today’s ceremony was very good our elder Adelima had many good inspirational things to say today. also in memory of the fallen of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Wow….

Yesterday was awesome!! We went to Pechanga and we were invitied to go see their sacred oak. At first I thought it was just a tall tree like the sequia ones. Til we walked into the tree and BOOM!!! The branches were formed together and than we learned that the branches were also supporting the tree. The tree bottom part was under ten feet of sand and was extended by three more feet. So in total the tree was 94 feet tall give or take a foot or two. Than after we went to building 3 and saw a arrowhead o.0 that was 10,000 years old!

Than after we went to D. Rega house and i helped her prepare the food which was something i found to be the best part of the day!!! I love her knivies because they were so sharp!!

This morning we met an padiliaa and it was amazing hearing her story!! Even though she went through all that drama she still found peace! Wow is the most powerful thing and human thing to do. Finding inner peace is something that has to be earned, that is what i learned

Today

Today.. An elder named Adelima spoke to us about Family and her life and how much our culture and heritage is important to all of how lives… That really touched me… She’s a very strong and wise elder. I thank her for those kind and honorable words!
