Pool Party

TODAY WAS A FUN DAY.

Why college is important to me:

1. Provides opportunities to give back to my community through helping in the field of Biology and native land rights.

2. My people have suffered a great deal, and it would be a disservice to who I am and what I stand for if I did not strive to try my hardest and succeed in every way possible.

3. I want to succeed in life

4. Giving back to my people has always been a priority for me.

Why going to college is important;

Going to college is important because you’re finishing your education needed for life. Also education is the key to life, many people who don’t go to college end up having a bad job. Another reason is because it can help you succeed in your goals for careers, like i want to study ecology and college would give me the opportunity to accomplish my goals. People who go to college earn twice as much money as those who don’t. Peoples children will have more opportunities for school, and cars.

I learned that more about genetics that I knew about

KATHERINE’S DIARY 1

I LIKE THE IDEA OF COLLEGE, AND SOMEDAY THAT IDEA IS GOING TO TURN INTO A BABY. AND THAT BABY IS ME, I BELIEVE THAT THIS BABY IS GOING TO MAKE THE IDEA COME TO LIFE.

My dream is to go to college, my family is really supportive about everything and i want to make them proud. Seeing them happy makes me confident and like I want to follow my dreams. I really like brains, so I want to be a neurologist and I want to learn about what concussions can do over someones lifetime, etc. Another idea is Athletic Training, Im in a Sports Medicine class so I already know a lot about the human body. My teacher is actually the Athletic Trainer of my High School, he used to work for the the Seattle Seahawks and it gives me a huge idea of where I can go with this. I wanna be a BEAST, so COLLEGE is gonna get me there. Im Savage right now but i want to be the real deal. Plus COLLEGE BOIz!

I learned how to express myself in a comfortable way. 🙂

-College will get you a better job like a storm chaser.

– College will teach me more about tornados.

– Because I will get to travel to places like Germany, France, Switzerland, and New York.

Reflection:

Today was a lot better than yesterday and yesterday was pretty alright. I learned today that I need to be more talkative cause people were like “you don’t talk to me”. So I could develop my talking skills. It is always good to be talkative at the appropriate time.

Swimming at Scott’s was cold at first in the pool but I still was cold until I got back. There was also the thought of wishing for a shopping day.

Reflection

Today I learned…

How I tell my story. I told my story to one person, all they did was listen. I realized, sometimes you just need someone to listen. I also heard them tell me their story, I seen how everyone one goes through hard times, struggles, and self-doubt… but it’s your choice to do something about it. I loved to see all the indigenous youth in the pipeline program step up and further their learning. Becoming role models for younger ones to look up to. Pursue their dreams and goals. Just knowing we all support you. We’re listening.

Day 2 for Nick Miller :D

I want to go to college because I want to help protect the ocean by pursuing my dream in being a marine biologist. Being indigenous and a marine biologist at the same time is something we really need right now and for the future. I want to bring the combination of tradition and science together to protect what needs protection. I also want to have the experience of swimming and studying amazing creatures of the ocean. Gathering research on creatures of the deep and not-so deep is a life long dream I want to accomplish. I could also pass down what I learned to the youth and generations after me.

Today was a very busy day. We woke up, exercised, ate a deliciously made breakfast by our residential elder, Joe The Amazing, went to a very exciting acting class, went to our English class reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, had break in between and fell of the slack line and got pretty messed up, learned about genetics, and we discussed self care. The highlight of the day was when Scott invited us to his house so we could go swimming. Today was a very busy, tiring, painful (in a couple of the students cases, me included), and plenty of fun. Grateful for another day living. Thank you ❤

Maya’s Second Day

I want to go to college because I need to get a college degree and a Master’s degree to fulfill my dream of going into art therapy. College will also help to make me knowledgable on politics as well as current world affairs. With a college degree, I am able to obtain more job options, and have the freedom to choose the career which I am passionate about. And finally, going to college will help give me the opportunity to have a job which makes me enough money to not only keep basic accommodations, but also to improve my overall quality of life.

Today was the second day of pipeline. We went to many classes for the first time, but my favorite is still Rose Portillo’s acting class. It’s fun to chill out and be silly, especially during busy days. We had many in-between breaks today, and it was nice spending time outside while it was warm. After English, we spent time at the mounds together and then went in to our class from Western University, and then to Tessa’s class. Then we got to go to Scott’s for dinner and a pool party! I ate two pieces of pie.

College means everything to me, its important because i have a chance to be someone. Meet new people, in the future to get a good paying job and provide for my family, and be able to tell people that i am Native American and have an education. It will also make me feel great about myself because my family will be proud of me and I’ll be proud of myself. Possible interests of mine, when i go to college, would be writing and growing up to be a book publisher, another one would be a marine biologist and go into a field that will make my dad proud. My last interest would be something in Medicine whether it be a anesthesiologist or a heart surgeon, just something that sparks life in me.

Today was the first day of classes, it was okay. It was a start, so not a lot of things were understandable to me. But i kept my attention on the teachers and did what i thought was what we were supposed to do. It was really hot and lunch was different (pizza) and super great! I took notes and wrote down what was on my mind, and the words i wrote sounded great, like i was smart. And my confidence was tested in my first class and last class, which makes me proud of myself because I’m coming out of my shell. After all the classes were finished we went to Scotts for a pool party, I still have pie and plan to finish it tonight. Goodnight!
