TUESDAY 26TH! PERPITUBE,AQUA CALIENTE,VIDEO GAME CHALLENGE!

Today I was proud of you all. Everyone participated and was actively engaging. The presentation in the morning on Isolation and Connection was very fascinating. It was great to see you all working on hard on your ‘mini’ video project, that was challenging! I thought that it was super awesome to see all your intelligent words and drawings on the wall! Oh and those Oatmeal Cookies were Delicious Right!? Keep up the great Work!

CHECK OUT THE KIDS GETTING INTERVIEWED HERE

The Drive to Aqua Caliente felt long to me but we made it! Boy IT WAS HOT! We learned alot about Commerce and the importance of making connections, not just through social networking but also through old fashion one on one conversation! There were representatives from Disney,CBS,NBC,AT&T,VERIZON,& MORE! It was great! it was alot to take in but continue to think about the importance of connections!

THE VIDEO GAME CHALLENGE!

The kids were challenged to pitch an idea for an Original Video Game! It had to be creative, lucrative, and COOL! THEY ONLY HAD 10 MINUTES TO CREATE AND 90 SECONDS TO PRESENT! I WAS VERY PROUD OF ALL THE KIDS BECAUSE THEY ALL TRIED SO HARD! A few lucky winners got passes to Disneyland and Universal Studios!

Keep Learning and Believing in yourselves!

So farrr

I’ve enjoyed meeting most of the other people here — including our lovely mentors! Some of you I haven’t gotten to talk to yet but we still have 11 days to go sooo I still have time (:

I also enjoyed the sheep brain lab and the history class the most. I am looking forward to, as well as worried about, working with the cadavers tomorrow but hopefully it won’t be as bad as everyone makes it seem.

Toodles!

Pitzer Pipeline

Ok so we are on day 3 of the program I am amazed at these students! The hour and a half car ride today was made enjoyable by insightful compelling conversation, punch bug, yellow car fever and outta-state mayhem.  Thanks guys! The students are busy blogging, capturing pictures and videos all while learning about Native culture and college opportunities. Tomorrow we travel to Western medical to look at dead bodies ;P

Older Than America

One of these experiences here at Pitzer College is the movie that we saw yesterday was called “Older than America” that was a pretty intense film! Made by a young Native American named Georgina Lightning. The film touched me…. and… the boarding school they built for the Native Americans…. was horrific! I cried! It made me sad of what these Europeans did to our family members, I mean it was just… in the 1970s and that, to me, was not too long ago. I am proud to be Native Hawaiian and Native American. And I am happy to be here. This is amazing for me. I’mma sure that you’ll enjoy and experience here at Pitzer College and learn ’bout the Native American culture and experience the culture! Learn more ’bout yourself! Learn more ’bout your ancestors and what they did and have been through. Be proud of you and your culture. Be who you really are. 🙂

For more information about the movie visit the website. 😀

one of the 2 young ladies I mentor was a member of a winning group at todays Agua Caliente Youth Leadership Expo. There was a group contest in which students were asked to come up with an idea for a video game, and to then come up with a sales pitch. Needles to say the winning team got tickets to Disney Land! Way to go Elka!!! :] ❤

The Pipeline at Pitzer….

Day 3).. so far it has been an amazing experience working with these awesome students and staff, everyone seems to be connecting with one another. We are surrounded by positive energy which guides our curious minds as we explore new territory and experience the magical journey of the Native Pipeline to college….
