Western University… our trip.
So, today is, Wednesday and we visited Western University where the students learned about the different types of medicine and medical fields. We first learn the difference between a MD and DO. (I think??) Anyways, basically one has more hours learning… like 408 more hours… and they also learn how to treat the patient better. This is because they learn how to use their hands and feel what is wrong with the body. Mike one of the students there tried to fix my lower back but the table that was there was not the best and he just couldn’t really pop anything. However, he got some of the other mentors kinks out… which is awesome. We next went to the thing lab where the vets learn how to stitch things up and give shots. I did my first suture which was awesome and it came out good… makes me think I could do that…jk! The last part, before the q&a, was the anatomy lab where we learn more about the brain, the heart, and the lungs. I got to hold them!!! which was cool. Now we are all blogging…. and I’ll admit that I am tired and ready to eat.

Western
Today we took a look at Western University. It was pretty interesting, and very fun. So I am even more convinced that I want to work with brains and neuropsychology in the future. The Thing lab in the Veterinary section of the college was fun. We got to go into the Anatomy lab today, surprisingly the smell was not as bad as I was preparing my nostrils for. But I’m sure that was only because the actual Human Cadavers were covered. I just wish that we would get to work with the Cadavers themselves today, but today was fun nonetheless.
The Anatomy Lab!
I was so excited and tired at the same time and looking forward to see the anatomy lab at the Western University of Health Sciences. When we got their my stomach was all twisted n’ I had butterflies as well. We did the Sage before we head into the school… Umma… We also listened to one of the doctors who worked there, they talked ’bout the differences in studying heart beats and how to treat neck pains and other pains in the body. When that was done, we head over to the anatomy lab. I was really nervous! I said a little prayer and I was confident, so… When we got their…. We went into the lab coat room and this odor-like-smell just quickly went into my nostrils and it was just bad and gross! We put on the lab coats and then we head into the anatomy lab, and I see all of these…. Dead bodies…. All wrapped up! And…. The smell in the lab wasn’t that bad at all. I looked around and saw on top of the shelves were some organs inside these jars! It was amazing! And I see all of the different organs on the trays… Different shapes of the heart, the lung, and chopped up pieces of the human brain! I was soooooo excited! I was the first one to get to hold one of these awesome human organs! The lung, from a smoker, was…. very big! And some of the sides were all hard and some of the parts of the lung was…. squishy, and some of it was soft. Then we moved onto the hearts! The heart was, like, the size of my face! Well… Kinda. lol Anyways, It was amazing! I loved the anatomy lab! We didn’t get to see an actual human cadaver, sadly. I was sad. 😦 I wanted to dissect a human cadaver and see it. 😦 But… I had fun, anyways. 🙂
Western University
today we went to western university and it was really fun. we learned about podiatric doctors and other doctors as well. before we went to see human cadavers we had prayer which was really helpful. unfortunately we did not get to see them but we did go into the lab where the anatomy doctors looked at them. some of us weren’t allowed to even see the cadavers because we were under 16. it kinda sucked :P. but it was really fun. we went to the bainfield vet school right next to the building we were in. seeing all the things the vet students do, it really makes me want to keep going and try to make it to vet school 😀
Roller Coaster Fail
We were on our way back from Western University 🙂 Those vans can create the most fun ride ever! Last minute acting skills lol 😀
Momentous
These past couple of days have been amazing and really happy to be getting to know everyone in the program. Everyone is getting to know each other and really starting to connect…. YESSS YES
Im proud of the students and eternally blessed to have and amazing staff….THANK YOU ALL….
when i saw this movie it reminded me about my papa (great grandfather) because i remember him telling me he was forced to go to Sherman in his teen years, and it was a struggle to stay alive. he doesn’t really like to talk about it but when he does he only talks about how he was treated. he would tell me that he was spit on, slapped, and was always called names. but he said no matter how hard they tried they never broke him and he never gave in. the biggest struggle that him and his family had was food. (this is my favorite story) when him and his brother were kids they would go into the watermelon patch and lay flat as they can and eat watermelons. but the people who grew the watermelons had shotguns and would shoot any one who would trespass. so once they here the gun click they would shove watermelons down their shirts and run smiling till the people stopped tracing them. the same with cows, at night they would go into a farm and just take a cow and have it for dinner the next night. and to think he risked his life just to eat. my papa is still alive he is about 79yrs old and i hope to get more stories from him because even if they bring bad memories he would still laugh and say “damn i was crazy, i don’t know how I’m still alive” and it would make me laugh because hearing the stories he was crazy. there’s this one story where him and his brother tried to fly a cardboard box airplane off a 2story house with them sitting in it. my papa is a very interesting man and is the best story teller.
