Arlene’s First Day! July 6, 2018

Hello Everyone that’s reading this, I’m Arlene McDonald from Lancaster. We drove here and got to meet new people. After orientation, my family said their goodbyes and left to go to the beach. I settled into our dorm then did IceBreaker. The game was fun but hard to remember everything what other people said. After we ate lunch we made a dream pillow. We had a speaker named Val come in and talk about her experiences, what she dose, etc. She was very inspiring to never stop and keep trying. We ate dinner after that, the did Martial Arts with Hector. He taught us self defense moves and it was fun. That was my day!29379045498_5bd0b05e4a_z

The heat was too hot to be comfortable. I liked the new experiences how we were open to each other and you don’t have to worry about being judged. I loved how we would sit in a circle and talk, just saying little things about our selfs, learning new things about each other.

Ja-Rey in the NY2C house

My name is Ja-Rey and this is bits of the story of my first day at pitzer’s Native Youth To College Program.

After my arrival to the parking lot of Pitzer,  I stepped out of the car to be greeted with this very gross feeling of hot air. It was motionless and dry but it didn’t dampen my anticipation for the program. At the check in table I was about to scope out some of the students I would be spending the next 14 days with. My momma was about to walk me to the dorm I was assigned and help me get situated.  It was air conditioned so you know we were thankful,  we had carried my luggage up four flights of stairs in double digit weather. This was my highlight of today cause it was kind of like a flash to the future. We talked about how similar the moment I leave to college would be to this one. I was glad my mother was there for support.  Its only been a day and i’m very thankful for the opportunities I will find here at NY2C.

Kevin’s First Day

Today was a very fun day for me because I was able to meet new people and old friends within this program. I was very nervous when I got dropped off here because I have some important things to do today and the days to come in and out of home. When I met my mentor I believed that he will be one of the most important person here including my roommate and others in my group. The activities that we did today helped me realize more on how everyone is different but can suffer from the same problems or rejoist about their accomplishments. As for the other activity that we did towards the end of the day witch was martial arts was very fun because I got to do it again with the same people        as last time within indignations and new people. For the food that I ate it wasn’t that much that I ate but, at least that I didn’t over do it as the previous day I was here.

Tlaloc’s great start

My arrival to the parking lot of the Pitzer campus was filled with so much excitement, the likes of which I have not experienced in some time. I was blessed to meet such wonderful people with whom I plan to form meaningful connections. It was also a joy seeing and greeting friends and elders from the previous year. Today was filled a lot of emotion that I hope to see escalate during the rest of the program. This year’s program seems it will be filled with passion and a sense of eagerness to want to learn more and more as the program progresses. I am looking forward to see how much more I will and and forming more meaningful memories.

We went to the ceremony and saw some new people and all of us students introduced ourselves to the other parents and to the Mentors. THen we went to lunch and we had fun and ate food and we went to the third floor and a lady came in and talk to us about life and the experiences she and her grandmother had and talk to us about how to relieve stress. Then we made up a story and ate popsicles. Then we went to the cafeteria and ate dinner then after we got done eating we went to the third floor and we did martial arts and we all learned how to defend ourselves and how to defend for others. Then we talk about who is our rock which means, who do we look up too and then we got on the computers and madeour first day blog :).
