Tyvon’s unforgettable experience at Wishtoyo

Hello Fellow Readers, I haven’t blogged over the past few days due to having no connection with the blog but a lot has happened for example our trip to Wishtoyo which was amazing and beautiful.  During our trip we traveled to the home island of the Chumash people, learned new songs, learned about laws that only apply to Native Americans, and more about the doctrine of discovery( domination). When we were arriving to the islands I will never forget about the dolphins playing in front of the boat. On the island we went kayaking which was a new experience for me and I am glad I went because the scenery was absolutely breath-taking, we also went snorkeling. But good times unfortunately come to an end but I will cherish my time at the village.

Ja-Rey views the spirit game

okay what up,

I’m here to tell ya’ll about my 4th day at NY2C. Today out of all the amazing activities we participated in the program gave us the chance to watch Spirit game: Pride of the Nation. This documentary told the story of the Iroquois confederacy’s fight to reclaim  lacrosse their traditional sport. I’m not the veeery best at explanations but the trailer is linked to the post… so MOMMA if you reading this you should watch it cause its pretty good. The energy communicated through the film created a lasting impression

Spirit games

Today was my first time watching the movie, it was very informational about where the sport lacrosse came about and where it originated. I really liked the film, I knew about the game lacrosse, but I never knew the game was that spiritual. Since the sixth nation did not want to use a Canadian or a U.S passport they always have problems traveling, and the chance of them making it to the games were very slim at times.

day three ny2c Zion

Third day of the ny2c program and i’m having a great time. Mayan math is always very interesting finding connection with the maya culture and mine the relations between calendars and our mathematics. I had a great time in the game design class my group invented a hybrid of tennis, the mayan ball game, and soccer. It wasn’t very easy  but we still had a good time. we also watched spirit games great movie glad to see it for a second time its a beautiful piece thank you so much.

Antonio Tlaloc Carrillo- Fourth day at NY2C

The morning began with breakfast at the Pitzer Dining Hall at around eight o’clock. Then we had a writing session with Professor Shelva that allowed us to continue our essay prompts of the common app and get more feed from herself and the mentors. during the session, we broke off into groups where we shared the topic of our essays. It was great to get helpful feedback that will positively affect me in the long run from the mentors.

Naui Ollin Tonatiuh NY2C day 3: 7-9-18

Essay draft writing: for this class we continued working on our essay drafts that we did yesterday. But today after we finished typing we were set into groups of 4-5 people where we discussed changes in our papers that should be made, challenges of getting thought onto paper or writing in general and we all gave each other feedback and constructive criticism.

Mayan Math: In mayan math today we got set into groups that were based on our mayan day sign glyph, my glyph is N’oj and i was in the same group as kevin who is lakota from pineridge rez.

7/9/18chill

Today was fun just sitting by the pool with the other kids soaking up the sun. I’ve seen the movie spirt game before but today for some reason the movie was better, i was thinking it was because we got a little insider and more information.

Day 4 : Marissa Aranda

Today was a fun and easy light day. We started the day off by eating a healthy breakfast. We then split up in two groups for writing ( 11th and 12th went with Shelva and 10th and below went with Rickie.) While writing we had finished up last sentences for our free write then did peer editing. Peer editing helped me make my story better than it was before.  We then had Mayan math. In Mayan math we split up into four groups and we each had a challenge/ game that we had to complete. My group had four energy cards with the energy name on it. We had to place the name on a wooden block and use letters that he gave us the spell it out. After Math we had game design with carlin wing. That was interesting because we got to use mental strength to figure out some new good games. To sum up the day it was very interesting and I learned a lot

July 9, 2018

Hello, my name is Arlene. The first class I went to was Writing. We finished the prompt we picked and peer edit. The next class was, Mayan Math. We got split four different groups to play a Mayan game. The game I played was, we needed to pick the letters from our energy card. We played different games in Video Game Design. Some things we talked about was what games we used to play when we were kids and how their played. The professor spit us up into different groups where we had to create a game with a ball. My group, separated desks and tried to bounce the ball onto all of the desks separated, into the bucket/trashcan. Later, we watched a movie called Spirit Games. It was really interesting I highly recommended it.
