Hi my name is Jade Huitzilin Ayala I am fourteen years of age I will be going into the 10th grade at Anahuacalmecac this year. I am from Los angeles but my nationality is Mexican American my dad comes from Guadalajara Jalisco and my mom is from Los Angeles. I see my self as a girl with a LOUD annoying laugh that loves the 70’s culture. I have attended to Davinci camp this summer at Caltech and it was a math program and we went to art museums we had important lectures from special guest speakers as well. The activities that I have participated in my school were I was in student council and I was given the oppertunities to speak and represent my community as well as my school. Through my school years the awards that I have received were the Jose Huizar award for being one of the top students in class with some of my other peers from my school. I have also done presentations in front of crowds and I have spoken to the board in Sacramento last year for my school. What I hope to accomplish in the future is that I have helped my community and that I have developed GOOOOD communication skills.
Pizter College, First Impression-Trisha
Traveling to Pizter college to see everyone from last year and meeting new people is always exciting. I thought ‘wow I’m here again’ to continue the adventures. I plan to make so many more memories being here. When everyone arrived the rush of energy was hard to continue while burning in the heat. Even though it is burning bum out here because Washington is rainy and cloudy most of the time, California is so beautiful!
Dani and the Giant #PEACHESFORLIFE
My name is Quiachtunaut, my english name is Danielle Kennedy-Jefferson but prefer to be called Dani. I am Assiniboine from my mother’s side and Coast Salish from my father’s. I live in Lummi Nation, ten minutes from Bellingham, which is two and a half hours from Seattle in the state of Washington. I go to Ferndale High School and will be a Senior.
I describe myself as positive and a writer. I know that 80% of my day I have a smile on my face and that I have the need to write random things that come to my mind. I love to put my thoughts and imagination into a story. It keeps me going.
This past spring and the beginning of summer I did the program, a mini university for Coast Salish students, and we did a lot of conservation projects. I felt important because I was helping my people’s land. I also started my first job 6 days ago and I realized I love going to work, not only because I had my own office but I love the feeling of being mature and like I’m my own person.
At my high school I do Sports Medicine for football and it’s basically first aid for football players. It’s what makes me want to go into a major in Medicine when I graduate high school and go to college. I love helping people.
I sing with my sisters professionally and have used our voices for activism.
I don’t know what I want to accomplish but I hope that I do figure something out.
Sabrina C. Starr
First off my name is Sabrina Crysta Starr, I am 16 years old and I come from the San Carlos Apache Tribe and Tohono O’odham Nation of Arizona. I am currently a Senior at Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, CA. I left my reservation to have a more higher education than what my people could provide for me. I had just turn 14 when I left, I wasn’t at all afraid because I was accompanied by two of my closets cousins. My uncle always told me the that when I get out of High School to get as far away from the reservation as I could, to go and explore the world, see what I never saw, and don’t look back until I’m ready to come home. Because home (the reservation) will always be there. So I really took that to heart. So my years at Sherman would defiantly be a highlight of my life. There I took part in an All-girls hand drum group. I also took part in sports as well such as Varsity Volleyball which was a redemption for because I fractured my ankle in my sophomore year and that took me out for the whole season. Another sport I did was long-jump during track season. I also took part in my dorm club and being the Vice President and an ITC Officer in my Junior Class. Also Sherman gave me an array of different Career Pathways to take, also some that I may never have known if I stayed on the reservation.

First Impressions by THE Nick Mill
My first impressions of today was it was very very hot. Other than that it was pretty righteous. I got introduced to new people, swam, and made clapping sticks.

MacKayla S. George
“The elevator to success is out of order. You’ll have to use the stairs… One step at a time.” Joe Girard
My name is MacKayla S. George, I come from the Lummi Nation Tribe located in Bellingham, Washington. I guess I see myself as a leader type of person because my grandpa is trying to teach me to stick up for myself and what I believe in and to be in charge when he’s not home, he’s teaching me to be a leader to take his place when he’s gone and to be a leader for my siblings and community. I go to Lummi Nation School it’s a K-12 tribal school, I’m going to be a senior and I’ve been going to Lummi Nation School since Kindergarten and I’ve never left. I’ve done a work program with an elder at Northwest Indian College where she had us read a book on our Lummi people and I found my Great great great grandma, uncle, and auntie in there and learned a lot about them and learned my uncle was a medicine man, we did our family genealogy. Also during the summer I canoe pull, it’s a tradition we as Lummi people have had for a long time and not only us but other tribes as well, my cousins own a canoe so I get the opportunity to pull with my family and we travel all over and meet new people so it’s a great opportunity. Just in May I got an award called the American Association Of University Women (AAUW) where they picked girls throughout Whatcom County for achievements they’ve completed in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), I had my award in Science. I hope to accomplish many things in my life, most of all I hope to graduate and go to college, I want to do it for my grandma and dad, just last month my dad passed away from a car accident so I want to do this for him and my grandma. I’ll be the first in my family to graduate and go to college. I want to go back home and try and turn the place around and make it better for the kids behind me, people always talk about wanting to change the place but never do it. Lummi always talks about wanting the children to leave and go do things in life but they won’t help us to get to where we need to, I want to be able to go back and help children and teens get to where they need to go so they can succeed in life, I don’t want kids to struggle to get an education or be worried about they’re parents because they took the wrong path. That’s the things I did I constantly worried and prayed for my family so I want to change that for the future generations and get the drugs and alcohol off the reservation and help the children get the education they deserve. I’m not saying were going to baby them, we all face struggles people don’t know about. There are kids on my reservation going home to drugs and alcohol and verbal abuse and they need help and I want to be there to help them. They don’t deserve to be treated like. One thing I here on the reservation is that “the children shouldn’t be the parents to the parents” I was one of those kids cause one parent chose the wrong thing to do that left her homeless and she couldn’t see her children and the other parent took the wrong path and went so far into the drugs, he couldn’t escape it and it ended up costing him his life. I was constantly worried about them, I still worry about my mom but I hope for our sake and hers she straightens up and stays clean for us. I just want to make our reservation better for the ones coming up behind me, it will definitely be a challenge to try and change it and I might not be able to but I will try with everything I have to make that place better. I was raised by my grandparents, they are really well respected elders in our community, my grandma passed away a few years ago but she is still respected, my grandpa will stick up for what he believes in even if it means people won’t like him, that’s just the man he is. He’s trying to teach me to be like him but he’s to scary. But i’ll learn, it’ll just take time.
