The highlight of the day was a class that called “US Immigration Policy Under Trump” that was led by Professor Adrian Pantoja. He discussed the importance of decolonizing the mental and physical barriers that have been implemented into our mentality. i deeply appreciate what he represents and the knowledge that he shared with everyone. It’s now up to us to educate and implement the mentality of no division to our communities and appreciate all other ethnicities and cultures.

Flower Wars by James Fenelon

With the name “Flower Wars” there is inherent feeling that there might be an aggressive tone to the game. This is not the case. Flower Wars is a fun game that has two teams compete in a team building manner. As we would play, it was easy to observe that one of the objectives of the game was to give support to your team where it was needed. You couldn’t succeed in beating the other team unless your team was great with supporting one another. These positive messages should included with our policies regarding the environment. If we do not support endangered species then it is possible the whole ecosystems could collapse ultimately hurting us and the environment. This also related to the mistreatment of indigenous communities in that we are hurting people that are on our own team, humanity.
Day 3 at NY2C By: Jada
Today I learned how to play a game called Mexica Flower Wars .The idea of the game was to work as a team to protect the person holding the staff. The game was a very fun way to communicate and learn about each other.Earlier today we had to write what we would put in a college essay.I had a hard time with this because one of the topics was hobbies and talents.Overall today was good I guess.Yesterday was more challenging because we were outside for more than 6 hours. We also got to make soapstone necklaces that took a long time to carve.

Joshua solving problems
Communities can help with problems that people have people work all together. If a community went together to stop a problem it will be easier than someone solving a problem all by themselves. Communication is very important in almost everything that’s affecting communities.
Mexica Flower Wars 7/8/18
The concepts of communication that we had to practice in Mexica Flower Wars with Hector made me realize that as long as we work together we can get things done!!! I loved that we came up with strategies together and if they didn’t work we discussed how to improve them as a whole group.
Kayani-being open to new ideas
communication has a lot to do with being open to new idea’s. young minds have astonishing ideas that deserve to be heard. Not being open to new possibilities is turning down change. Change is something that no one should be scared of. It is something that can be presumed.
Joseph day of solving issues
Today we played Mexica flower wars and we also started a projects about our tribe. one way that these two can relate is because you have to use both communication and trust with your community. this is how today has been.
solving big problems: Marissa Aranda
Hey everyone! Today was a very interesting day with all of our classes and lectures. the day started off with a writing class with Ricky. In the class we shared some environmental issues we were concerned about and what steps we can take to make our concerns disappear. We also talked about some laws that we’ve had problems with and would like to change due to the effect it had on us. Later on we picked topics to research and present on. After that we did indigenous games with hector where we were taught communication and many other skills such as learning from your mistakes and coming back from failure. these two classes related to each other because they both teach us the same concepts in the end.
Yesterday was a very important day for my family. It was a day where one is coming of age. In other words it was my brothers naming ceremony and all the students were invited and got to go. My brother Is a very important figure to me because he is my oldest sibling and inspires me to be the best I can be although we may be very competitive with eachother. My brothers old name had been little dragon fly and recieved the new name of spirit eagle. These ceremonies are important to my tribe and to the families who are having a child being named. I hope that the experience of the students going to the ceremony gave them an understanding of what different tribes do to celebrate coming of age.

Jarrod’s 3rd Day :D
Today, I learned the importance of communication and strategy through the Mexica Flower wars by how the first round my group didn’t know what to do because we were not led properly and we were basically running around like headless chickens. On the second round on the other hand, we were coordinated and actually communicated with each other, and that led us to a victory. Communication and strategy actually makes a big difference in your team if you are actually willing to listen.
In Angela’s class, we talked about environmental issues and Law issues. With the environmental issues we talked about oil, cultural land and pollution. With laws we talked about discrimination and how some law enforcement is not always good.
