Today we started off this morning with Makahiki games. Afterwards we looked at more scholarship options. Then my favorite part of today happened when we got to see and work on cadavers but with virtual reality. It was so interest and amazing at the same time. Today was a pretty simple day. Not a lot happened, but it was exciting!

Sadie – Fifth Day
Hi,
This morning when we did the martial arts, we played the four different games and we got in groups and when we played against partners and then the winner went further up and played the winners of other groups. I liked the arm wrestling and the chicken fight game. Then we went to breakfast and then to the writing class which I always enjoy but today we had a guest speaker and she showed us these three videos.
The first one was showing how the natives were like aliens and I never really thought of it like that; of how it seemed like natives were speaking some kind of jibberish and how unsettling and scary it must have been for settlers. So it brought in some new perspectives for me. Just because natives seemed scary to them didn’t justify anything that they did or anything. It just made me think a lot. The second video was good, I liked how it showed how children were so different when they weren’t being watched over by a teacher. The third one was my favorite because it showed that people who were abused try to get help through courts but they sometimes have to go to an outside source or they just have to live with what happened to them. Then we looked up scholarships and I found two that i was thinking of applying for but i’m not sure yet.
The Shakespeare talk that we had with Albert Wachtel was amazing. I loved when he read the poems to us and then he elaborated. My two favorite pieces were the first one he read about love and how the person he loved was more beautiful than nature and better than everything. My second favorite piece he read was the one where he pretty much bashed the one he loved the whole poem and told about all their imperfections. And then in the last two lines, he pretty much said it didn’t matter because he still loved them. I also loved how Albert didn’t just stay on one topic, he moved around as the conversation went on.
The Anatomy Lab was crazy because i was thinking of either going into the field of pediatrics, medicine, or neuroscience so it was so interesting to me to look at the touchscreen and see the different levels of the body. It really felt insane seeing the lungs and the heart of the human because I thought that they would be more fragile but they were more sturdy and easy to handle and look at. I wish we weren’t so rushed to look but it was still really cool. And then in theater, I was in a way better mood so i participated and it was nice to hear Belmont’s story and to tell him mine. And that was my day, see ya. ._.
Back Again : Tina
Hakû! So today was amazing. Ok, I’m like honestly in love with Pitzer. Everyday I wake up in a good mood and spend it with amazing, beautifully-spirited people. Some are starting to grow on me, I’ve made a lot of new friends and the mentors are AMAZING!!! Anywhoosies, this morning we did the martial arts. It’s a great way to wake you up in the morning and give you energy in a different, wonderful way that not a lot of people get to experience. Once again, I am so grateful to be this lucky and get to spend two weeks in paradise. After academic writing, we looked up scholarships. This made me so stoked because i think about all of the help i can get if i just out myself out there. Also, i looked at The Juilliard School in New York and I think i might make it there. The confidence and experience i have with theatre and the arts makes me happy that theres a school just for me. Today in theatre, we became animals. i would say “pretend” but there was nothing fake about it. i love the class so much. right now I’m blogging typing this and my mind is going blank. these past two days have been emotional for me and others, so some parts of yesterday and today i didn’t share because i don’t want to be sad again. I like writing a lot but i just can’t remember anything without having the emotions crowd on me… sorry.
Maddie’s 5th Day!
Tuesday morning, just like the morning before we had Indigenous games with Hector. We learned some native Hawaiian games. One being The Chicken Dance. It was absolutely hilarious standing in the middle of a circle on one leg, holding your partners hand trying to get someone out. It brought me many laughs this morning. Then we had class which is writing workshops and college admissions. I specifically liked that we were given time to look up scholarships and make note of them. Made me feel way more confident in applying. I inserted some pictures of myself in admissions on top. Then we met with a UC Riverside professor, Michelle Raheja. She talked about native film writers and producers then showed us a couple short films by native film makers. I thought it was interesting how it incorporated science fiction but still respected native culture. As the day went on we had Shakespeare with Albert Watchtel. He started by talking about Native traditions and kinda comparing them to literature. It was a little challenging to keep up with him and at times got confusing. Then, we got to travel to Western U to observe virtual cadavers of the human anonymity. We also got to actually hold a human heart, lungs and kidney. It felt like a whole new learning process but was still really interesting. After we came back to Pitzer and had some free time until dinner. Afterwards we had theater. Theater brings me lots of laughter especially when we are acting out like animals.
Over all I feel like throughout my day I was productive, interested and tired.
Thank you.
Ayeee
Heyy so today we a lot today as we usually do everyday. Today was fun we went to Western University and looked at a virtual reality anatomy lab and actually looked at a real heart, lungs, and kidneys. I thought it was really cool to see real hearts, lungs, and kidneys bc I wanna go into the medical field and the human body interests me. It also hard to process that these were actual real human parts. We also searched for scholarships which is really good because I’m going to be a senior and I’m gonna need it. Okay that is all for today we are actually gonna dissect a sheep brain and I’m kinda excited! Peace

If you’re happy and you know it… by Nick Miller
So. Today was pretty eventful. Hector taught us the Makahiki games taught to him by the Hawaiians. There was a version of arm wrestling when you’re laying down, a type of chicken dance, spear throwing, and a version of bowling with a rock and bed posts (I think). I went as hard as I could in the chicken dance game and I played like, 8 games in a row. I won every one of them, no mean to brag or anything. Later in the day we talked about Shakespeare with Albert. I love the way he teaches us about Shakespeare’s poems. After Shakespeare, we went to Western University and learned about the human body. I’ve never seen a touch screen as big as the one there that they use for anatomy. It’s super cool because they don’t have to go through cadavers to get what they need to see. We also held the heart and lungs and that was very powerful because you’re holding what used to be someone’s way of breathing and living.
Suuuhh DUDES Chenoa is here..
Today was really great we got to hold a heart, liver, and lungs. I’ve always wanted to do that because I was really interested in the human body. I watch this TV show called Greys Anatomy and its about a hospital and its amazing.
Maya’s Fifth Day
I’ve been feeling pretty cruddy the last two or three days, so this morning I sat out of martial arts. I was a bit disappointed but the rest of the day made up for it. I napped through morning classes and when i woke up I didn’t feel as sick and my body was most definitely more rested. Then we went to Western U after lunch and get this- I held a freshly harvested human heart! I did throw up in my mouth a little, but for sure an interesting experience. Then came the virtual reality lab! The technology was incredible. Falling down the trachea almost felt real. Afterwards came dinner. Then today in theatre we talked about traditions.
Catch these photos.

Heart Day; ksp
Today was an interesting. First we started the day with indigenous games which was exciting and fun! Next I learned how to apply for scholarships and where to find them. I’m very thankful I had the opportunity to learn this because before today, I had no idea how to find a scholarship. But the most riveting part of my day was holding a human heart and lungs. When holding these organs, I felt emotional because these were in a living human being. Other than that, it was a one time experience and I’m glad I learned more about the human body.
love my friends

Day of interests
Today I had many highlights. For starters I touched a couple of organs from humans like the heart, lungs and a kidney at Western University. They smelled a bit weird, like a shoe store or like glue in a bottle. After touching dissected body parts, my group and I went to a different part of the university and we seen a virtual reality body on one of the biggest touch screens ever. I had such a fun and interesting day.
