I’ve already started my essay prompts and hopefully be finished with the final essay before I start my senior year! Students prepare yourself by making notes and rough drafts and start the account to get started! Don’t forget to ask for help! Today was a very spiritual day for all the indigenous youth. Felt good to take a stand for the protest for our indigenous rights! We sang and walked, not only for ourselves but fo reveryone who needed it the most. I was glad to see the community cheering us on and reading our posters for what we think is right, today we had a purpose and that was to make a change! #IDLENOMORE

Today we carried the voice of millions of aboriginal energies in our walk. We were not idle in any way whatsoever. The spirit of our peoples persist in our hearts and souls, and we let Claremont know. We danced. We laughed. We sang. We shouted. We were true to ourselves. I had the task of carrying the Huehue’s blanket on my shoulder. I did this with honor and pride.

We did not simply walk. We had purpose. We communicated our rights for acknowledgement and recognition as original peoples. Our women are statistically at the top of the missing peoples list. This needs to change.

In canada, we are called First Nations. In the United States, we are called Native Americans. Call us what you will; we are the caretakers of the Earth and its children. As Human Beings, we should never have to assert ourselves and make sure our rights are known. However, our governments force us to. We are often stripped of basic human entitlements and we want our leaders to stop being Idle. They were appointed to make change, and so they need to.

Common Application is a website that helps you with finding the tuition and phone numbers of the admissions office, it is where you choose a college in the state you want and tells you all the information you need to know and how to apply, that’s why the website is so helpful.

Students that might sign up for the common app will need to have their personal information and a pen and paper to take notes.

It is super important to research colleges before you apply because the students might not like the school setting or the classes they provide. And to know the background of the college, you want to have a instant bond when you read about the college you’re researching.

The student writing the essay has to make a great impression on the person reading it, that’s why writing a fantastic application essay is so important.

Some tips to writing an amazing essay would be to always be yourself but never babble on about how your the best. The student should speak from their heart.

This is important because you don’t want to apply and go to a college that you never researched and it turned out that the college was not the right one for you.

4. Writing a strong college essay will separate and differentiate you from the rest of the applicants. This is when admission gets to know who you are and they really look forward to a great essay. It is important that you keep the reader entertained while at the same time you write the truth of who you are.

5. When writing a college essay it is vital that you do as many drafts and revisions as possible. Have tons of people read and give you feedback to strengthen your essay. During this, try to stay truthful and be cautious with humor. Something that may be funny to you might not be funny to the person reading your essay. Another great thing to do is to state how you overcome challenges and explain what you have to offer for the college community.

Indigenous rights are human rights. We’re not invisible. If we don’t say it, it won’t be said.

1.  The common application is helpful because while your applying you find out information about college and it takes you through some steps on how to apply.

2. They need to be prepared for the application. When I first looked at it I thought it looked kind of weird, you need to know the your information because obviously your parents can’t fill out your college application for you :D.. I started filling out my high school application and I had no idea on what to do I had to ask my auntie all these questions. So I guess kind of be prepared on what you think might be on there, there can be some things on there you wouldn’t expect, who knows, you won’t know until you fill it out.

3. It is important to do research before you apply because you need to know about the college and you need to know the majors, you need to know the some things you never expected while you do research, so when you do research and you find something you didn’t expect then your like “Oh okay this is good to know” so you can look things up you weren’t prepared for or thought were on it.

4. I think it’s important to write a strong college essay because maybe the better the essay the better chance you have getting into the college. You also have to have good grades, honestly this year I didn’t come out with the best grades, and I’m going to be in 11th so that is most likely gong to affect a college I want to apply for. So get good grades.

5. Some great tips on writing a good essay is write about your self and not others, they want to know about you, not your family your the one applying they want to know about you, have people go over it and re read it, get a lot of people to read it and give you feedback on how you did and if they say you need to make a few changes, then make them it’s only a few changes.

6. Some tips for telling my own story is I talk about my problems a lot so sorry, but I also want to tell how it’s affected me, how I wanted to give up but got back because the people who love me and believe in me encouraged me to get back up, It’s like Canoe Pulling, it’s our tradition in Lummi, we do races and if you lose don’t get so mad easy just keep trying and one day you’ll make it to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place just as long as you try and have fun, not everything is about competition as long as you do it and have fun with the people you love. 😀 MacKayla Sharon George
