Yesterday was when we started out photoshop first time experience. I chose to have a background of the beach because the water is very sacred to me and I love the feeling of the sand on my feet. I also chose to wear my regalia and hold my rattle because i felt it was powerful.

July 16, 2018 Arlene
Hello I’m Arlene. Today was a pretty chill day. We went to Writing and read a students essay on a website and did group work. Next, was Mayan Math. Well, we didn’t really do Mayan math but we had to make a sentence in Mayan language. We also watched a video on Thirteen B’aktun or something like that. After lunch the tour people came and gave us a tour of Pitzer College. That didn’t really make sense because we’ve already been here for over a week. Anyways, that was interesting. I went in the pool for free time than went to the Yoga room. After we did a talking circle on what our ancestors left behind and in the future what we want to leave behind.

i chose this picture of me to represent how humanity has the power and ability to change the pollution happening on earth. i would like people to see that life is important and we are destroying the only life we know of. the mountains are what earth should look like. the building represents all the pollution humanity puts on the environment
Tlaloc-Monday 7/16
Our first session had juniors and seniors continue to add to their common app. Professor Spaulse set a lay out in which a paragraph should be organized. During a break, we watched a video about different strategies that can improve ur writing. When I was writing, doubts became apparent about the topic that I was writing.

***STATEMENT***
The Black Hills was part of Treaty land in the beginning until gold was discovered and the european/colonizers broke treaty land out of greed and slaughtered many Native Americans who got in their way. Then the lowered our land privileges and broke many promises and broken many treaties. They offered money in resorts to the Black Hills. in for which we must always
FIGHT FOR OUR LAND AND TO ALWAYS FIGHT FOR WHATS RIGHT.

Analysis of My Photoshop Piece
The Photoshop piece that I made was with the Bears Ears behind me with me in front protesting with a protect bears ears board, a deer in the middle of the road, and finally a map of what will happen if we allow companies to start extracting on these lands. Well first of all the national monument established by Barack Obama, then it was reduced by 85% President Trump did this to increase the jobs in the area which will have disastrous effects on the local ecosystem and destroy the sacred place for Navajos, Hopis, Zunis, and Ute. The deer in the picture represents the local wildlife which will be forced to move to another location due to the effects that are to come. I am protesting in the front of the picture to represent my full support for the protection of this beautiful and sacred site. If we stand together we can save this national monument and we may be even able to save the countless sacred sites for indigenous people all over the U.S and maybe even the world.

Ja-REYREY goes through another day
First, I wanna say happy birthday to Julia
i’m grateful to be in the presence of someone who has done so much work in their community. She is an amazing leader and adviser and I will pass all that I’ve learned from her to those I can. Today was very fun but it was hot. We took a tour of Pitzer college and got to ask questions that we really wanted to know like financial aid for Pitzer and different academic opportunities that are unique to this college among other things. I didn’t like walking around in the heat but i’m glad I got that opportunity. before the tour we had Mayan math which I always enjoy. Santos is such a fresh breath of air, he is so knowledgeable about his culture and he is also a strong presences within his community. He is definitely a role model of mine. We watched a video of a fire ceremony that people in his community shared online. When we were watching the ceremony I remembered the fire ceremonies I participated in with my community. I thought of the pride I felt in those moment during the fire ceremony and I knew those who were in the video were feeling the same sense of pride. They felt no fear in expressing themselves through their roles in the ceremony and I admire that. I began wishing that I would be able to embodied the same courage but taking larger responsibilities in my school community and pouring my energy into it with no restraints. Today was very chill and i’m sad NY2C is coming to an end.
“Only in the darkness can you see the stars”- Martin Luther King Jr.
When I was a little girl, I had this fantasy that I wanted to be an astronaut. In the mind of a five year old, when you’re an astronaut, you get to go to a whole world and touch the stars and even if you’re lucky enough, you could stop by the moon and eat some of it’s cheese. I still have this dream to this day, except being an astronaut. I still want to touch the stars and dream bigger than I’ve ever did. I choose my hometown because even the most well known people came from a place where people don’t know exactly where that place is. One day, I know I will be able to touch those stars and my dream will become a reality. And also special birthday shout out to Ms. Julia! Happy Birthday!!
Rolando’s 10th day
Yesterday we took pictures for a “native portrait project.” I picked a sunset on a mountain top, with the sunset behind it. My pose was like meditation/ calm, and I captioned it “Mind Over Matter.” I picked this caption because it has a zen vibe.
Joseph’s photoshop
So what I did for my photo shops was of a couple of pictures of our sacred mountains that are a big part in our culture. What I want to show is that the new generation that are slowly fading from our religion. and one photo they are coming back to the the culture. This is what my photos mean to me.
