A Whole Week Gone By

A week has gone by at Pipeline Program, I am having the best time meeting all these new people and learning all these new facts. Yesterday we went to Universal Studios and met the people from NBC, which had a lot of great advice to give to us for opportunities. We also got on the rides that was terrific i had a blast it was like a very special day and i felt like I got a little closer to people such as: Alex(boy), Alex(girl), Becca, Jana, Manuel, Sky, and Jackie. It was very tiring after the whole trip ended i just felt like going to sleep and relaxing. I liked that opportunity I would like to thank Scott  a lot because he does so much for us to teach us something new.

Another day in The Native Pipeline Program, yesterday we got to sleep in for a longer time and that was so good and relaxing. We had a mixed up schedule but it was still fun we learned about the Hawaiian culture. We also learned how to make Indian Fried Bread that was very delicious and it just makes me feel like my grandmas home. Then, we went to go to do some salsa dancing and yoga which is very tiring and mind-relaxing. I also have to say I drew some drawings that took a bit of time but it was worth it because i know i put all my time and effort into it.

Today we went for a walk to the market and i got to see a lot of the area and the amazing sites they have. While we were walking around i seen a lot of things: movies, stores, restaurants, salons, banks, and music shops. I was very interested in the music shop and i went to check it out there was all kinds of stuff in there i liked it a lot. Great music of all kinds i thought it was very cool. I also seen flowers everywhere and i decided to pick some and i got a rose and it smelled beautiful i think i might want to be botanist.

Old town claremont

today we went to the farmers market in old town claremont and it was really fun! i got to walk scott’s dog everywhere and meet a few people. it was really and and also i was like giving a miniture tour of the village (old town claremont) because i lived right down the street from there so ..yah really fun!! 😛

Western University

Western University was pretty awesome, I might even consider studying nursing there! I was a pretty disappointed that I didn’t get to see the whole body of the cadaver (just a foot and a shoulder..weirdddd) but I was glad I was able to experience holding the heart and lungs and view the various parts of the brain.

It started off with us learning about reflexes and massage techniques and ended with us asking the doctors questions.  I was very happy about that, that’s when I found out cadavers don’t really move (wow did I feel dumb!) and they actually have a nursing school! One day I might be sporting one of those adorable “Everyone Loves a Nurse” shirts!

Toodles! (Happy Birthday Mommy!)

Western University…

was a mind blowing experience. The students and I had the opportunity to participate in a human anatomy lab in which we were introduced to various body parts such as the brain, heart, and lungs; we were able to work with real human body parts. Being able to hold the heart of a deceased individual who had undergone multiple bypasses really hit home…About a year ago my mom had a couple of blocked/clogged arteries and had to undergo open heart surgery…Being able to hold the heart in my hands not only exposed me to but also helped me to further understand the causes and effects of a blocked/clogged artery. I am truly thankful to still have my mom around today, she is thee best :] ❤

Western University

Today we visited Western University- our host Kellie really set up a great visit. We were able to practice a bit of medicine on one another- some of us enjoyed some muscle manipulating. Then we enjoyed lunch. After that we toured the vet school where students took turns practicing sutures, giving shots and examines to “animals.” Then it was time for the activity we all had talked the most about- an opportunity to examine real human body parts- like brains, lungs, and hearts. The best part (for me) was seeing the different hearts; one had a pacemaker in it still and another had calcification which had hardened the aorta valves. Another highlight was the sidewalk art around – they looked like real people doing things like reading papers, playing with dogs and painting. Finally we had a chance to speak with med students and hear what commitment it takes to practice medicine. Hopefully we will have some future medical students (Christa) 😉

Western University

Today, The Native Pipeline traveled to Western University of Health Science to go see the human anatomy, but I couldn’t watch it because i wasn’t old enough. Although, i couldn’t see the human anatomy i did get to a see a veterinarian lab and the school campus which is very amazing and i love there art work that they have there. I learned a whole lot about bones, muscles, and reflex points. I also learned about massages and how the muscles are used to work together and relax the body  it is very interesting but I am still sticking to mechanical engineering.
