The events and field trips that Scott has lined up for this summer’s Pipeline Program are pretty cool. I know you haven’t seen the schedule yet so I’m just gonna post some highlights for you to enjoy and be excited over now.
Some highlights:
A Visit to NBC & Universal Studios
NBC Studio is known for being the home of the long-running The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Universal Studios, the oldest movie studio in the U.S., is one of the six major movie studios. Some famous movies/shows that came from Universal are: Jurassic Park, the Flinstones & the Bourne Series.
I know some people were mentioning that it was hard to find information about this summer’s Pipeline Program, so I am including a Poster and the Student Application form below. Remember, if you know somebody who wants to apply, let them know that its not too late. Encourage them to fill out an application and turn it in to Scott asap.

Hey Everybody! I hope you are all doing well and settling in to take on the new school year! I heard, for those of you who went, that the College fair was awesome! WHAT ELSE DID YOU DO? I am sorry I couldn’t make it, I was attending a Pitzer Faculty(the professors) retreat talking about DIVERSITY and Affirmative Action Issues! Real complicated stuff (I’m still trying to figure it out! lol). I hope you got to meet Carlos! He is a Pitzer Freshman who will be helping Scott and I and will also be a mentor to all of you! Carlos is an awesome dude! There will be some more Pitzer Students this year that will be joining us on our Pipeline Journey! Please LOOK out for Announcements from Us about the SAT, Cal Grants, FAFSA, and More! I am eager to see you all soon!
I just posted my little letter to the president! over two hundred and tewnty four words. i suggest that every one should write one it’s very easy and would be great for every one. Here is the video:
so these past two days we haven’t had the time to blog. I am loving this program I do not want to leave its just the greatest. We went to do community service which was a little surprise for me but it was nice helping someone out and putting a smile on their faces. We also went to a museum yesterday and saw all this artifacts and art. There was a lot about my culture and a lot to learn about it was stuff I didn’t know i liked it. After all of that we came back to Pitzer and had a talent show it was pretty fun even though i didn’t have a talent but its okay. I went jogging and learned some Karate. Then I had a long talk to my friend back home. Overall Im loving every single day and i would love to come back and hangout with my new interesting original friends.
ok so far we had a lot of classes since universal studios. we had a discussion on immigration, we also took a field trip to the south-west museum in the L.A area where we got to get a behind the scenes look at what museums do to keep their artifact clean and in well condition. we also went to Gene Autry museum where we got to look at the native basket section of the museum. we have watched two movies, which way home and dream keeper. both were really awsome!! last night we had a talent show where we had singin, an air band, magic, dancing, and more singing 😀 . the whole thing was really fun, after the talent show we had a dance party where alex was the DJ 😛 everything was really fun!!
Another day in The Native Pipeline Program, yesterday we got to sleep in for a longer time and that was so good and relaxing. We had a mixed up schedule but it was still fun we learned about the Hawaiian culture. We also learned how to make Indian Fried Bread that was very delicious and it just makes me feel like my grandmas home. Then, we went to go to do some salsa dancing and yoga which is very tiring and mind-relaxing. I also have to say I drew some drawings that took a bit of time but it was worth it because i know i put all my time and effort into it.
Today we went for a walk to the market and i got to see a lot of the area and the amazing sites they have. While we were walking around i seen a lot of things: movies, stores, restaurants, salons, banks, and music shops. I was very interested in the music shop and i went to check it out there was all kinds of stuff in there i liked it a lot. Great music of all kinds i thought it was very cool. I also seen flowers everywhere and i decided to pick some and i got a rose and it smelled beautiful i think i might want to be botanist.♥
So today is Saturday… we have made it through the first week and I am so proud of everyone!! I think that tonight was by far the best and I feel like we all really connected better than any other time we have had. I am happy that everyone who is here came to this program and I am so grateful to have a wonderful group… both young adults and mentors!!
The movie called “In Whose Honor?” It talks ’bout a young Native American woman, Charlene Teters, who protests ’bout American Indian mascots in Sports. She was offended when she saw the “Chief”, the mascot of Illinois University, preformed a weird dance in the crowd that wasn’t even…. An actual Peoria Tribe dance! She was offended and started to protest ’bout Native Americans are Human beings, not a mascot!! But… People started pulling on her hair and she was spit at for… Protesting ’bout the “Chief” mascot of Illinois University. She kept going! She was a really, really strong and confident you Native American woman! She said that these weird dances the University preforms in these sports n’ games…. Are NOT actual Native American dances! They were offensive to her and her people. Her and her people continue to protest ’bout the mascots they use and everything else that’s fake and that.. was really offensive to them. That movie… was intense! And that to me… made me angry! And I, too, am offended ’bout the… things they put up with Native Hawaiians! And that… offended me, too… I am proud of being Native Hawaiian, but… I wish I could do something like that for my family and my culture. It still offends me, today. I really wanna do something like that n’ protest ’bout these thing that offends us. I really do. Hey! I’ll be hated n’ spit at! I don’t care! I’ll fight back! Those who put me down! I’ll fight back! And those who’re reading this… Will understand of how, WE, Native Americans and Hawaiians, feel… For the things that OFFEND us. And I think today… They’re still doing that to Native Hawaiians as well. That movie “In Whose Honor?” was just amazing! That just touched me and my Native American side. I wish I was there, too. I am thankful for Charlene for what she did for her people and her culture. Thank you ever so much. (^w^) That just awakened my Native American spirit. 😉
