My Fourth Day
As for my fourth day here at this program call Native Youth 2 college program we watched a movie that talked about Native American Indians fighting for their writes and their land. Since the pope visited the United States the Indians believed that it was a very necessary time to protest. Since they lost most games they continued to fight for the win and when they lost their dreams became their new generations dream to win the finals of the sport locross.
Joseph’s experience for the day.
Today we had a three hour workshop with game design and which we created our own game with we could play with a modified version of a modern day game. We also watched an indigenous movie which the title was Spirit Games Pride of the Nation. This was a touch movie and was very heartwarming that this nation still plays there traditional games just like mine. What we where told was the Iroquois have there own passports but are not nationally recognized by the USA and Canada. This is one thing that I have learned today.
Destiny watches Spirit Game: Pride of a Nation… Again!
When I saw this movie last year, I gained a lot of information about the game of lacrosse and the team. It became one of my favorite sport documentaries to watch because of the thrill and the intensity of each game. It was also emotional at parts and I understood the experiences the Iroquois people went through just to play their game.
Now coming back and watching Spirit Game: Pride of a Nation the second time, I still feel the thrill and intensity watching the movie. I definitely enjoyed watching it again and I think it’s funny how I already forgot what happens in the movie and then I suddenly remember what happens. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes sports documentaries.
“Mathew’s experience of the day”
Today we got to learn about how, and what goes on into, about how making video games. and usual how long it actually takes to make a video game. Then we did academic writing for a few hours. Then we watched Spirit Games witch is a movie about Iroquois and how their their keeping their original games alive witch is lacrosse. What really caught my attention was how the Iroquois did not want to get a U.S or Canadian passport and use their original passport, but most of the time they were not able to use them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BltOwbw50wo
Natalie – Spirit Games (Day 4)
Today I watched a movie called Spirit Games: Pride of a Nation. It was a movie about an Indigenous nation and it’s passion for the sport of Lacrosse. Although it was a movie about sports, it was way more than that. To me the movie meant community and love for one another. Throughout the movie the Indigenous nation maintained community and communication which helped the Lacrosse team win games. This movie really moved me because it showed how the nation is respected as a sovereign nation, which is something that many other nations struggle with.
Spirit Game by: Jimmy
Today we did pure editing and then we did Mayan math and we had teams that went against each other in games. It was fun and we learned a lot today. Then we watched a movie of a team that was native and played against other teams across the world and the team was good and they play for the gold medal. They were winning in the 1st half and in the 2nd half they were losing and they loss. They tried they’re best to win and they were glad that they took 2nd place. And the people that came , they wanted us to show our people the game and want the game to be played and not forgotten.
Day 4: Arianna Quiroz
Today consisted of our daily routine of writing and mayan math along with additional activities. We participated in a game design workshop where we were able to come up with ideas in groups and test our games with others. Towards the end of the day, we watched a movie called “Spirit Games” which narrates the story of the national Iroquois lacrosse team. We were able to follow them along their journey through multiple challenges and witness the strength of the indigenous group. It was an emotional journey that I felt part of and I will forever be impacted by their determination.
Thoughts on “Spirit Game” By Tyvon
Today we watched an amazing film “Spirit Game” it was a privilege to watch this movie the second time it is about the Iroquois Confederacy game, Lacrosse, which they play at an international level this movie was presented to us by Gayle, and TJ. Gayle was an executive producer of the film she is also a Native American Rights Activist always fighting to preserve the way of the Native Americans. TJ was the first Spirit Game Ambassador and is also a Lacrosse player who tried out for the team. This film was just great it showed how important this game was to the Iroquois Confederacy and how the injustices of the Vatican was involved into this movie. Besides the movie in the morning we had academic writing with our wonderful instructor, Shelva she provided help with our prompts. After that we had Mayan Math which we learned how to use an abaco this tool is basically a calculator. Overall this was another exhilarating day at the NY2C program.
