Jada’s 4th day

My fourth day was pretty fun. My favorite part of the day was watching the spirit game movie.I got to learn about a sport that I didn’t know much about and its back round. Before that I got to design a game with a group of people. This was fun because I got to meet new people.I also had a writing class that was very fun because I got to work with my brother and cousin.

Spirit Game JOSHUA

Spirit game was a good movie because it was about a really good sport that these people really liked. I liked how they played the sport and how the sport was very important to the sport. The people were really good at the sport because the sport was a big part of their life.

so honeyyyy,

Today we were giving the opportunity to play an indigenous game called Mexica flower wars. The objective of the game was to capture the warriors who were carrying sacred staffs by touching the tops of their opponents heads. It really wasn’t as easy as it sounds. The day before we learned how to protect over self using indigenous martial arts.  we learn to block our heads and our stomachs but also learned how to move energy. Our instructor, Hector Pacheco reminded us how disciplined our ancestors were by cultivating a focus atmosphere within the students. He taught us the knowledge behind the game and how those with the sacred staffs represent future generations. The goal for the team was to protect the new generation and to listen to those of the future. Participating in Mexica flower wars built a stronger sense of community at the NY2C program between the students. We were able to communicate with each other and focus our energy on one purpose. From this we would be able to apply the same skills we learn during the game to help enrich our communities. Being able to organize and communicate with people in our community allows use to cultivate the energy and discipline we need to create a more inclusive future for indigenous people all over the world. I had a good time though it was so hoooot up in there. it was funny also, I can’t wait to learn a lot more about…. everything.

Tackling Big Issues: Arianna

Today we explored big problems that are prevalent in our world today. We throughly discussed issues in our own communities and measures that could be taken to solve them. Many environmental and Indigenous rights issues correlate with each other which results in hardships for indigenous communities. Later in the day, we participated in Mexica Flower Wars with Hector and his daughter. Following the war, we met together for a circle and discussed our gratitude to them and what we learned. Most emphasized to me was the importance of teamwork and how vital communication amongst a group is. When we worked together and strategized we succeeded. This act of teamwork allows us to achieve our common goal.

Natalie – Using Community and Communication to Solve Environmental and Indigenous Issues (Day 3)

Today I learned how to play a Mexica game in which communication and community were important skills in order to achieve victory. Earlier in the day I also talked about environmental and Indigenous rights issues. Communication and community are both concepts that can be used in a way to tackle these issues in a way of promoting love and not hate. A lot of times, violence and hatred for one another are outcomes of issues that lack communication and community between both parties. To sum things up, concepts of unity can be used to overcome issues that effect the environment and Indigenous rights.

Solving Big Problems

When I researched the career I want to pursue in, I noticed that several colleges I didn’t even know were great The next class was, Mayan Math. I understood the math yesterday kind of but not today. It was very confusing, I got lost easily and it was interesting at the same time if that makes sense. The first class we had was writing and we talked about how environment issues that’s affecting people and laws that harm our community. It was a very interesting topic that we discussed with each other. 28420236547_6008810387_z
