Community

Indigenous communities can be powerful foundations for youth. Many elders are still presently involved in the progression of our tribes, and that is beauty. The motivation helps us help our next 7 generations. To ensure our people strive, we must succeed now. To do this, resources are necessary. Our people are our best hope, for we can not combat the army of problems pulling us down alone. Programs like the Pitzer pipeline are also needed to help our students along what seems to be an everlasting journey. I and all my peers are honored and thankful for these opportunities, and I have shared the knowledge I gained with my friends and family back home.

Awareness is key. If one does not know, one can not act. If one can not act, everything will remain uniformly concordant. We are the generation that needs to and is breaking the cycle, and we are aware of this.

I have given my word to my family that I will do everything in my power to succeed and return my knowledge to all aboriginal peoples. A’ho

The 4th day

  1. The school should help with going to college.
  2. My parents are to prepare me for college. They’re encouraging me to do something positive.
  3. I am attending programs like this to prepare myself for college.
  4. I am going to try to encourage others by going to college and letting them know they can do it too.
  5.  I liked getting up earlier to do sunrise ceremony. I also liked learning more about diabetes, it is good information to know because some of my family members have and because it is so common with native americans opposed to other races.

help with college

There are many types of people who can help me get to college like teachers, counselors, and your family and friends. For me personally i would ask my school counselor and i would ask my biology teacher because she helps me out with things like that. People within my circle of friends, like christa are helping me by encouraging me and answering my questions. I am attending the pipeline and that is helping me go to college. By going to the pipeline i learn about how to apply to colleges and write essays.

Today I had a good day I got to learn more about my people and how they were treated in the past. I must admit it was sad but its good for me to know the past of my ancestors. We went to the pomona college and we got to work with microscopical worms. As gross as that sounds it was really cool to see how they work the machines. I myself would love to go into a science major in college so to see the different types of science is good for me.

College.

1) Some resources I know about that will help me go to college, are scholarships, Carry the Kettle First Nations with help me (my mothers tribe), etc.

2) People helping me in my community are my parents, relatives, close family friends, and my school Ferndale High.

3) I am really paying attention to my education, I try to be involved in activities in school, I try to be as confident as possible and meet new people, I have a summer job, and I applied and was accepted into the Pipeline Program.

4) When friends or family ask me for advice, I will say something like “follow your dreams” or “you deserve anything you want” and I will be 100% encouraging and supportive!

#peachesforlife

1) The only resource I can think of that can help me get to college is financial aid, supported by my tribe.

2) The Lummi Youth Academy is helping me prepare for college by motivating and helping me maintain good grades in school, getting me to school everyday, helping me sign up and apply for running start, and just supporting me each and everyday through anything. The pipeline program here at Pitzer also plays a big role in preparing me for college even though they are not community, I consider them friends/family. So a special shout out to you guys! ❤

3) I’m helping myself prepare for college by thinking ahead about what I would like to study, what my major is, and what requirements I need to do in order to go to college, etc.

4) I would help encourage my friends to go to college by explaining how college is needed in order to get far in life. Like getting a good paying job so that you can buy a house, a car, bills, and helping people. I would show them all of the good that comes from going to college and how its worth it to go the extra mile in school.

5) Today was another successful day, I really enjoyed going to Pomona College and learning about neuroscience and itty-bitty tiny microscopic worms. It was to see and meet people who were so interested in science, because I was never fond of science at all, hahaha. (besides my love for astronomy of course)

A resource to get to help get college is

1. Our councilor Matt Verata, Randy Kaui, My Grandpa James Scott Sr.

2. My whole family is helping me prepare my grandpa is the main one though! He wants me to go away and get an education, but I also want to go back and give back to my community.

3. I am helping myself prepare for college by going on a few field trips to other colleges and I also look up some colleges I’m interested in.

4. I will help and encourage other friends and family by showing them what we do in a slideshow about Pitzer and talk to them about Pitzer college and I want to encourage them to look for things their interested in and what colleges they want to go to.

5. I had a great and amazing day. the part that really got to me today was when we sat down in a class with Rose and Joe. When they talked about the missing and murdered aboriginal woman, it made me feel really sad. Knowing that some people don’t care they think they just went out to parties and got drunk. Sometimes I feel like a lot of people think that all Natives do is drink, party, and do drugs! Well there are some of us who are trying to succeed in life and are doing programs like this at Pitzer to try and have a better education and give back to the community.

Support is Everything

1. I believe the main resource for support to go to college is family. Of course might not be the situation with everybody, but family plays a big role in your desire to go to college. Another resource might be friends. Friends are a great source of encouragement and they can be very uplifting.

2. My parents are definitely helping me prepare for college. Even though they never attended college or got a good education they are my biggest supporters. My mom is always encouraging me to apply for scholarships and school programs like this pipeline program. Where as, my dad is supporting me in the athletic version of college, where he helps me take great steps closer into playing college soccer.

3. I am helping myself prepare for college by staying involved with my community and academic studies. I am also always seeking for help in order to further prepare myself.

4. I will encourage them by sharing my stories and personal experiences toads preparing for college. I will definitely recommend pipeline programs and most definitely the Pitzer Pipeline program. I believe by me telling them how much fun and succesful this pipeline program is then they will lean towards participating.

Day 4

The one resource i know of is TANF (T.M.T.T). I have been with tanf for 8 years and they have taken me to more than 30 colleges and they are the ones that introduced me to the pipeline. My old education consoler from Tanf Elena helps me with so much by educating me on such much college strategies. I help educate my siblings and friends by telling them all the fun things i do when i go to a college campus.

Day 4

Some resources that I know that will help me go to college is TANF. TANF is temporary assistance for needy family. This will help me because they help me prepare and guide me to college. My friend Elena is guiding me to college and preparing me. My day today was tired because there was a lot of talking and sitting.

Bloggingggggg

Some resources I know that’ll help you get into college would be scholarships.

My personal teacher where I live is helping me prepare for college.

By going to school and making sure I have good grades I am preparing myself for college.

A way I can help other friends of fine to prepare for college is to tell them that they should always keep up in school and try their hardest.

My day was very long like always it’s just because we wake up early. But theater class was fun.
