Think Back and Reflect

i thought the college that visited us this morning was to good to be true, i mean 10,000 a year? c’mon there’s always a catch to those types of things maybe they need more students to apply so they try to bribe, I don’t know, Not my time tho. I thought Pomona tour was very interesting very old school in a sense. I really loved the arts and image making was really fun had a really great time. The basketry and drum group was really amazing, felt really connected with everyone, all enjoyed. I also enjoy the talking circles with auntie Julia new topic every time nice to hear and see everyone open up. Also a great experience with Mayan Math, and Writing with Shelva, really new and interesting assignments, learning more and more to come!

Mathew’s day at NY2C

For the past few days there has been a lot of bonding and very fulfilling opportunities  here at the camp. It has really changed the way I look at things now, but to come here to learn about our culture and others peoples culture is so awesome its really a experience you have to see, feel, and admire it yourself . I got to meet new friends got to learn more about others peoples culture, and also share some of my culture, and sing with some friends. Really tho, there is so much to talk about this program and i’m grateful for the people that put this together, because i know how much planing goes into these camps and how long, and how much energy takes to get these camps going. The thing that kinda sucks tho is that i’m turning 18 this year and i’m not gonna be able to be in the program anymore, but who knows maybe ill become a mentor in training next year, lol , but really I would love to come back to this camp to meet new people and have more experiences, and help my community to be there better selves. if your reading this and was thinking about coming but didn’t next year apply and come, you wont regret it, trust me just do it, you’ll43366806492_8a0625b6aa_z have fun and make some new friends. XD

Joesph’s day at Pitzer

For these past couple days we have had a jammed schedule and most of these sessions have been real deep conversations. One sessions was with Julia and was about what our ancestors left us and what we are going to leave the future generation when we leave this world. We also have learned a lot about Mayan math and which was a bit confusing until we understood the concept. One thing that will really help me is the academic writing because it is about the personal essay for the common college application. The thing that was really amazing was the basket weaving. I easily caught on which made it more easy for me to finish quickly. On Sunday we had a photo shoot and everyone had time to take pictures and be the director and be the documentary person. we learned how to photo shop us into other backgrounds and edit them so we actually look like we are in the pictures. Today we had a presentation about animation of anatomy. For this presentation the lady was the person who made some of the human and animal figures in the Disney movies. For instance she did the movie Mulan,  The Lion King, Trazan, and Brother Bear. Overall I think these presentations will be helpful in the long run.

Since we began indigenous games, all of us students been bonding, having fun, and doing stuff. We’ve been learning how to defend ourselves and defending for others. And we learned a new move too help us focus on something we need to be focused on. We’ve been handling sticks as weapons and learning how to take a weapon away from a person. And we got in two teams and fought and it was fun. I had a great time doing this and hopefully we can still do this next year.

Tuesday July 17

Today I was a little tired because of the big walk that we did around one of the colleges. Since it was hot we had to bring extra water to drink. As the time passed we went to eat at my favorite cafitiria so far out of the colleges so far. Maybe when I get older I might come here.

Jada’s 11th Day at Pitzer

The past few days at Pitzer have been very exciting and eye opening .One of the main things I enjoyed was photos hopping a picture of me into a different back round. This was exciting because I got to take pictures in a professional studio and editing and photo shopping it.Something I look forward to doing again was martial arts.Martial Arts Indigenous games was exciting because I got to learn a way to defend myself and have fun doing it with other people.

Ya Gurl Huitz!

what about me?. I am a youth that is deeply attached to the energy of warmth and bright ya dig. My image provides you with the observation of my everyday energy, such as the pieces of jade and the hummingbird as well as the background color that I personally selected. As you can see there is my beautiful thiyck self holding an Aztec flower while feeding the hummingbird, my way of moving during ceremony represents this energy. The stone of Jade is very sacred to my people and has a personal impact on myself as I wear it, the feeling has a balance of dark and bright for me personally. The color is titled as a bright red orange! this color explains my attitude in a way that it shows that I am Strong, B****, loud, crazy, warm,. I try to incorporate this color in my traditional wear as well as in my fashionista attire. Now that you have the understanding I encourage you to eat huevos con chorizo O Whateva!.
