1. The things I miss about home is probably that my birthday is tomorrow and I don’t get to spend it with my siblings and mom. I usually spend my birthday with my grandma mom brother sister and my stepdad. My grandma and mom usually have a dinner for me. I also miss my mom i spend a lot of time with her when she isn’t at work.

2. One thing that I miss about home is my family i don’t see them all the time but I usually see them every once in awhile. i have not gotten homesick  and i don’t think i will.

3.  One thing that is great about being away from home is I don’t have to just sit around and i don’t have to be around kids 24/7. That doesn’t mean that i don’t miss home but I know i am going to be there soon and time is going to fly.

Today was a good day I loved being off campus. I like going to the mountains thats what I cam here to do explore. And try new things and I am very grateful that I got the chance to do this program. I think we should do more off campus things as well.

Amazing Day of Culture

Since its been almost a week I’ve been away from school, I honestly miss sleep and the food. That’s about it.

One thing that makes it hard to be away from home is just not getting much sleep but really nothing else makes it hard to be away from home BRUH.

I love California and I am having a wonderful experience here at Pitzer.

My day was wonderful because it was that hard and long as usual, and singing the flood song with all the other Lummi girls felt amazing.

Day Six

1) & 2) Being away from home for so long has made me simply miss being in my most well known surroundings. Especially since before the program started I’ve only spent a few days at home because I’ve been gone otherwise. I also miss my parents, simply spending time with them and talking to them.

3) The greatest thing about being away from home is that I can spend time in other environments, with other people, and with other routines.

4) The highlight of today was our day at Mt. Balding. It was amazing being around people who knew so much of our natural surroundings, and the purpose they served for the indigenous people of that region. It was also very beautiful, and I enjoyed simply walking around and observing my surroundings and asking questions about anything that caught my interest.

Comment On Trisha’s Amazing Day!

1) What I miss about home. Not so much my friends because my friends are here with me.

2) It is hard to be away from home because I miss my dads cooking and eating as much fruit as possible. I love a lot of fruit all the time.

3) What is great about being away from home is taking a break from sitting at home all day in bed.

4) Today I felt.…Amazing singing and dancing, learning all the new songs was very heart touching.

Its been a week and its been great, i get stressed now and then especially when I’ve had barely enough sleep, the things or people I miss the most are my parents and my older sisters. I’m not homesick but I still miss them.

The things that make it hard to be away from home is some of the students attitudes when we haven’t had enough sleep, only once in awhile do students get like this. It makes me surprised and flustered when someone gets kind of mean.

One thing that is great about being away from home is having freedom and learning a culture from somewhere else than my Reservation. Its nice and I’ve come to know so much people, I’ve learned from them and taught them. Thats the great thing about being here.

Today we visited Mt. Baldy it was cool, I learned a lot about the trees in the area and saw tortoises! The classes were great and I enjoyed every one of them! It was a great day overall and the field trip was super great.

July 17th

After being away from home for a week I’m starting to miss my family, especially after calling my parents. It’s hard being away because work started this week and I’m going to miss a couple weeks while we’re here. I like being here because I don’t isolate myself all the time, it’s not like I really can here. I liked going up to Mt. Baldy and attempting to dance and singing the flood song, the song could have been better though.

1) Now that I’ve been away from home for almost a week, I miss sleeping in, the cool weather, and my friends. I don’t sleep in that much, only until around 10-11. And even though I love warm weather, I do miss the nice cool 70 degree breeze at home.

2) Not being able to bring everything that I own makes it hard for me to be away from home, i love being away but I can’t fit everything in one bag haha.

3) I love traveling, getting out of my home, exploring and seeing new things. I always want to travel, I always want to be away from home. So just seeing other places other than Washington is great.

4) Today we went to Mt. Baldy and toured their land, sang songs, listened to songs, danced and just had a great time bonding. All of us girls from Lummi sang our national anthem for the Lummi Nation, The Flood Song. I had to try and remember the words because I haven’t sang it since last year. All-in-all it was peaceful, memorable and beautiful to go up to the mountain and meet new people and here their songs and culture.

Being away from home for almost a week made me miss my little sister’s and little brother  Tristah, Kadejah, Dylan, my grandpa, and my mom! I’m definitely not home sick for Lummi.. I just miss my family not Lummi. I guess I kind of miss the nature it was all green there I don’t see that much here, so i miss seeing all green too.

2. One thing that makes it hard to be away from home is that I don’t get to go visit my mom and my siblings and family aren’t here. I missed a birthday party already and I just really have a hard time not seeing my mom because were so close.

3. One thing that is great about being away from home is that I’m not in such a crowded place like my house. I have a bed to sleep on 😀 our door is always open at home so I’m always on the couch because I always have cousins there. Another thing I don’t miss is that there isn’t such loud noises here like really loud cars going by bumping their music and its really quit here.

4. I had a really good day I got to spend my day with Rose and that made me really happy she told me a story. We kept kind of getting interrupted so the story kept having to be continued but thats alright because we finished it and Oh My Gosh! I love sage and we got that today so it made my day even better. We also got to hear those guys sing today and we got to learn about different cultures and learn a bit of their songs so my day was just AMAZING! I hope tomorrow and sunday go better.. And I can’t wait and go to the village! I’m so excited to see Mati and Luhui!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!  Sincerely- MacKayla Sharon George

I felt very inspired to learn  more about my culture, when I saw that Bingo knew a lot about the artifacts that were in the basement of the music auditorium. It made me proud to see that an elder of mine knew more than the lady that was presenting us the artifacts. I thought that it was not right when I saw that the artifacts weren’t in the place that they came from, and how far away those artifacts were away from their tribes.

I think that college and native culture can go together because a lot of native american people don’t know about the history that took place long ago, with the boarding schools, and how many tribes lost their language because they weren’t aloud to speak their language in boarding school. I think a lot of things like our cultures and histories should be studied in college, and in earlier grades, so that the knowledge will be passed down to future generations.

My day was very fun, I liked learning how to project my voice while speaking or acting. but yeah today was great 🙂
