Joseph’s trip to Wishtoyo

So on Tuesday we traveled all the way to Malibu to go to a village called Whishtoyo. Whishtoyo is a chumash village that has been in at this site for 8,000 years. When we first arrived, they village welcomed us with some wonderful songs. when we first arrived we had a welcoming ceremony, then we had lunch, next we went to the beach. when we where at the beach, a huge wave took me out and took my glasses. The next day we left early morning to the Island of Limuw. Limuw is the original home to the chumash people. What we did at Limuw was snorkeling42697872584_71b81ee688_z and kayaking. The next day we did a moot trial with the UCLA law students. The last day we had a closing  ceremony which was a great time then. This was a great experience in my life.

Monday 16 2018

On this day me and my friends went to the pool since today was very hot but before we went to the pool we had a tour of the campus. Another thing I did today was feed the turtles in the morning. I also plan to finish my photo shot pictures with the T-pose.

Kayani’s Wishtoyo experience

i enjoyed my time spent at Wishitoyo. A lot of my time was spent with my cousin. My Favorite activity was shucking Abalone. it was unfortunate that i couldn’t go with my peers to the island. i heard they had lots of fun. I tried spending my day doing as much as possible. the more i did the less i felt like i was missing out. the people at Wishitoyo were very supportive. I would’ve stayed if I was aloud. It would be great if i can go again next summer.

Ja-Rey in her element

announcement.

My best friend was shipped in last night to start the NY2C program a whole week late. Yeah a whoooole long week but she was at another summer camp so ya know it was all good. This passed week we had been disconnected from the world obsessed with speed and slowed down a bit to ground ourselves with the love of culture. We were invited to Wishtoyo and got to stay 4 great days on the restored village site of the Chumash people. I cant even begin to explain the amount of love I felt leaving those lands on our final day.  Those who have dedicated their lives to the culture and who took time to greet and care for us those 4 days are the most amazing people I have every meet. We did so many activities, like kayaking and snorkeling on Limuw island which is the origin place of the Chumash people. through all of that my most beautiful memory d at Wishtoyo is spending many hours of the day learning Chumash native songs and stories. sitting in front of the fire offering prays  was the best night. It reminded me of the pwoer within our culture and ourselves. It was an amazing experience and ooooh i slept outside every night too. (fun fact: you cant see the moon because of light pollution from the city)

we left campus at either 8 or 9 am and arrived at 12 pm. I was greated by the Chumash people with a welcome song that is shared with the tongva, then we were taken into the welcome ceremony. made our rooms then ate. then walked around. then the next day we went to the island and i had tons of fun i have no regrets  Then we came back to the village and did some other things

AYYYE huitzilin is back O Whateva!

What’s up ya’ll today was my first day at the program due to attending another program at Pomona called PAYS(shout out to the loks). Lately I have been trying to let everything settle in and hopefully show my best potential here, as well as to connect with all the students and mentors the are participating this summer. I deeply would like to thank Scott and Violet and others for still letting me participate and accepting my application even though I was missing the whole first part of the programming love ya’ll!.

Rolando’s 8th day

Just got back from wishtoyo yesterday. It was my first time being there and on Limu island. We did a lot of fun things, like story telling/songs, snorkeling, kayaking, shucked abalone, and it gave us all a chance to bond with each other. The Island was very beautiful, and it was my first time being in the island, snorkeling, and we seen dolphins up close along the way. It was a very interesting experience. And I would definitely do it again.
